At ProtonMail, we allocate a lot of resources into the research and development of better cryptographic tools and processes. We are currently the maintainers of OpenPGP.js, the world's most widely used JavaScript cryptography library, and we additionally maintain a cryptography library written in Golang that is used by our mobile and desktop applications. In addition to maintaining and expanding these libraries, ongoing cryptography-related projects include building a key verification system.


The following are required:

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Computer Science or Mathematics (or equivalent)

  • Strong background in computer science (algorithms, data structure, software design, reliability, maintainability, etc)

  • Strong English communication skills

  • Knowledge of JavaScript and/or Golang (the two languages in which our cryptography libraries are written)

  • Knowledge of cryptography with experience developing custom crypto libraries

  • Well versed in security and with a good understanding of security best practices from an application development standpoint
