About us

We are looking for you as our new Biomechanics Engineer (m/f). In this role you will be part of our Technology and Testing Group and be responsible for research and development of Biomechanics solutions for applications in Orthodontics and Related Dental solution for the Straumann Group. In this newly created position, you will be required to work with Research and Development partners to manage partner relationships and project execution. In addition to that, you will also work with other development team members to collaborate on strategic development initiatives and with Cross-functional teams to ensure that the development meets user as well as business needs. We are looking for a member of the team, who feels comfortable with short development cycles and independence in planning and execution of work. The position is based in Basel, Switzerland and reports to the Head of Technology & Testing Group.

Your tasks

• Create and manage specification development, test method development and test equipment development for Orthodontic and Dental Applications based on sound Biomechanical Principles.


• Manage Research and Development project and relationship with partner R&D organisations


• Simulate Real world conditions; in-vitro and create models for force,stress and strain assessment in the intro oral environment.


• Work closely with Materials team to evaluate and create materials with optimal biomechanical performance characteristics


• Develop and document all activities in accordance with the regulatory requirements and medical device quality system.


• Work closely with the clinical evaluations team to test the safety and efficacy of newly developed biomechanics solutions.


• Keep abreast with emerging technologies, regulations and competitor solutions to help create product roadmaps and Intellectual Property in the area of application

Your profile

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Biomechanics Engineering, specialization in Mechanics/Biomechanics is strongly preferred


• 3 – 5 years of R&D experience in Medical or Mechanics is required


• Experience in ANSYS, FEA, Medical Device Design & Development is an advantage


• Very good English and German language skills, both in written and spoken, any other language as an advantage


• Team-oriented individual to build and maintain effective working relationships with a knowledge sharing and learning mindset


• Strong analytical and result-orientated person with distinct interpersonal skills and an out of the box thinking mindset


• Communication and transparency are crucial success factors
