NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies is an innovative ETH Zurich technology platform created to enable and accelerate the execution of translational research projects by providing key technological resources, tools and collaboration opportunities for the personalized health research community. We are recruiting for the Clinical Bioinformatics Unit in Basel, to commence immediately or by mutual agreement, aBioinformatics Analyst (100%)
The mission of Clinical Bioinformatics at NEXUS is to apply expertise in bioinformatics and statistics to the advancement of biomedical research and clinical applications. The primary focus of this position will be project-tailored analyses of high-throughput data from diverse sources, such as RNA-seq or whole exome sequencing. Further responsibilities include development and testing of analysis pipelines, as well as the adaptation of existing workflows. While projects are typically in a biomedical research setting, their scope can be very wide, ranging from basic NGS analyses to clinical reporting. In that respect, NEXUS collaborates with various academic institutions and Swiss hospitals, and is leading a national infrastructure development project as part of SPHN.
The successful candidate has an MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field, and has experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research projects involving molecular data sets. He or she is familiar with high-throughput genomic/transcriptomic data analysis and with the usage of Python and Bash. Solid programming skills, knowledge of R, and familiarity in HPC are a strong plus. Experience in statistics or software development is a plus. The applicant should have excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of German is a plus. Furthermore, the successful candidate shows a diligent work ethic and is enthusiastic about working in a highly interdisciplinary environment ranging from computer scientists to biologists and clinicians. A strong interest in medicine and healthcare-related problems is expected. The position is fixed term for one year with the possibility of renewal.
