Programme Co-Director for the Future Resilient Systems (FRS-) Programme 100%

The Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) is an international ETH research platform located in Singapore, which currently comprises two large, cross-disciplinary research programmes. One of these is the Future Resilient Systems (FRS) programme with the mission to produce more robust and resilient high-density urban systems supporting a community of 30 Principal Investigators and around 60 PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. SEC is seeking aProgramme Co-Director for the Future Resilient Systems (FRS-) Programme
by 1 October 2018, or by agreement.

We are looking for a passionate and ambitious professional to jointly further develop with the existing Programme Co-Director the Future Resilient Systems Programme as the leading centre of its kind in the world. Both Co-Directors have complementing competencies. He or she will build upon existing foundations and contribute to deliver world-class research outcomes, and shape innovative and rigorous research approaches in the challenging and fast-changing area of resilient systems.

The Co-Director jointly develops the programme to a vibrant centre and takes responsibility for organisational decisions. He or she shares joint responsibility on academic and financial decisions, preparation of budgets and financial reports, as well as joint responsibility to supervise a research support management team of about four professionals. Additionally his or her duties contain the identification of emerging research issues and their transformation into new projects. The Co-Director performs quality control assessments, including compiling progress reports to the Singapore National Research Foundation and to SEC's governing board; and develops and implements mechanisms for the continuous improvement of the programme coherence. Finally, he or she initiates, plans and organises events to disseminate research outcomes and engages diverse Stakeholders.


You are expected to have a PhD degree, preferably in quantitative sciences, and several years of work experience ideally in both industry and academia. You have leadership experience, and an outstanding track record in leading and coordinating large research programmes or launching new initiatives. You show a keen interest in cross-disciplinary research, and in scientific concepts that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries. You are experienced in scientific team work, ability to coach team members, and to support early career researchers. You demonstrate organisational skills including project management and finances. You are an open-minded personality with outstanding communication abilities, intercultural sensitivity and willing to live in Singapore. You are proficient in English with scientific writing skills. German would be an asset.
