As a Release Train Engineer, you are responsible for the Instrument Software Release Train consisting of 5 scrum teams. The Instrument Software Release train develops the next version of a high-throughput, fully integrated laboratory automation system. The Instrument Software Release Train belongs to a Solution Train as other Agile Release Trains also contribute to the next version of the instrument.
Release Train Engineer (RTE) for the Instrument SW ART Release Train, within the cobas® 6800/8800 Systems 2.0 project.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Acting as a change agent who combines technical knowledge of SAFe with an intrinsic motivation to improve the department’s software and system development processes
Supporting in successfully implementing SAFe and improving its processes through continuous learn and adapt cycles
Building communities of practice for groups of people who have a common interest (e.g. SCRUM-Master, RTE, STE; Product Owner, Product Manager, Solution Manager) to increase knowledge sharing, professional networking and exchange common skills
Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART
Communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs) in alignment with the STE
Facilitate PI Planning readiness by setting up the process to prepare vision, roadmap, program backlog, technical design, and draft TRQs during the product technical design phase
Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating feature estimation and prioritization
Facilitate the PI planning event
Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency
Assist in tracking the execution of features and capabilities
Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings on ART level
Facilitate the management of project risks and dependencies
Track impediments on ART level and escalate if required
Facilitate System Demos
Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops
Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
Encourage collaboration between Instrument ART teams and between Instrument ART teams and Program team
scrum teams and
Report status to the stakeholders and Program team
Represent the Instrument SW ART in the Product Development Steering
A minimum experience of 3 years as an SW Project Leader in Scrum / SAFe.
Strong project management skills in project planning, scheduling, tracking deliverables and actions, facilitating decisions, tracking risks. Resource and cost forecasting, meeting management, regular project status communication. Would be great to have experience in vendor management.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
University degree in any of the following areas IT, Engineering, or equivalent fields.
Expert knowledge of Scrum, Lean, and one or more Agile scaling models (like SAFe, LeSS)
Perfect skills in English spoken and written.
Knowledge of Roche organization and ability to tailor the SAFe framework to the needs of the Roche environment
The following skills would be a plus:
PMP or SAFe certification.
German spoken and written.
Experience in highly regulated environments.
