( www.ispm.ch). Groups cut across divisions, facilitating an interdisciplinary
approach to research in the fields of clinical epidemiology, social and
b ehavioral health, biostatistics, and international and environmental health.
The Paediatric Epidemiology Research Group conducts population-based
and clinical studies in child health, with a focus on respiratory disease.
We are looking for a highly motivated
Epidemiologist/Statistician/Research fellow (80%) in Paediatric Respiratory
Medicine
Asthma and chronic cough are common childhood problems. There is evidence for the co-existence
of distinct asthma phenotypes, with varying risk factors, clinical presentation, short and long-term
outcomes and response to treatment. Many children have transient problems at preschool age, but
others develop chronic disease. Clinical care and research would profit, if we could predict, which
children will have severe short-term outcomes and a chronic disease course. We look for an
experienced research fellow, who will co-lead a research group of 3-4 people on childhood asthma.
This includes managing a multi-centre clinical asthma cohort in Switzerland (Swiss Paediatric Asthma
Cohort, SPAC), analysing data from population-based and clinical cohort studies, such as SPAC or the
Leicestershire cohort studies and writing scientific manuscripts.
