Your ‘day to day’ As a Manager you will develop, implement and drive cross-functionally the strategy for product sustainability, govern sustainable product design through our innovation and development stage gate processes, support corporate sustainability, consumer, and operations functions via the implementation of sustainable design strategies across PMIs portfolio of Reduced Risk Products. This critical role will be accountable for ensuring that PMI’s 2025 targets for Eco-Design and Circularity are delivered on time and to the highest standards. More specifically, you'll • Lead the product sustainability organization, representing the sustainability agenda in governance forums including new platform/product development, strategy development, communications and innovation management. • Supervise and ensure professional development of the product sustainability team, with direct reports in Switzerland and Hong Kong • Support product developments and cross-functional programs by providing input and expertise to ensure achievement of PMI’s ambitious 2025 targets for product eco-design and circularity. • Through project management, develop and drive the implementation of design practices across various platforms and functional teams, develop governance and monitor progress. Serve as core team member to new programs and ensure sustainability is taken into consideration in new developments • Direct the development/execution of device end of life program strategies including take back, product recycling and circular economy applications, ensuring industry leading practices • Lead programs on Design for Service and Repair and Electronic Eco-Certification in partnership with the electronics development engineering team. • Lead sustainability and product performance assessments (such as life cycle assessments) within the stage gate process and act as SME on all aspects of design to product and consumer teams. Design and drive new strategies for product assessment which combine technical need, timeliness and cost advantages • Be PMI external representative for product sustainability partnerships and engagements including industry forums on circularity, take back, and product design • Ensure compliance to policies, technical standards, norms and laws related to Smoke-Free Device and all activities executed as defined by the company QMS • Lead internal project members, external consultants and vendors when applicable, to ensure project scopes, budgets, schedules and timelines are ensured from project initiation until closure • Act as specialist in the design, control or/and implementation of complex product and process quality practices where few known precedents exist, as well as apply engineering solutions. Who we’re looking for • Advanced degree (Master’s) in Sustainability, Environment Science/Engineering or similar field required. • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience managing, developing and empowering a team • Substantial sustainability experience (10+ years) in electronics and/or consumer goods design and development, as well as sound working knowledge of sustainable design methodologies and implementation • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in electronics recycling operations, and ability to drive recycling innovation forward with external partners. • Demonstrated expertise in project management, people management, external engagement, as well as sustainability strategy, development, communications, evaluations and measurement (Life Cycle Assessment, Circular Economy, ISO Standards) • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate across the organization and to senior management, considering different levels of expertise and the audience • Demonstrated ability to work well in a highly cross-functional, PBO based organization, with ability to lead others through influence • Knowledge of the full spectrum of sustainability issues including supply chain, manufacturing, external communications (stakeholder and consumer), ESG reporting, social practices, sustainable procurement, etc. and ability to identify and leverage on interlocks between the various sustainability teams within PMI. • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
