Each of our 28,000 employees in more than 90 countries work together to solve one of humanity’s most pressing challenges: growing more food with fewer resources. A diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace environment are enablers of our ambition to be the most collaborative and trusted team in agriculture.

Our employees reflect the diversity of our customers, the markets where we operate and the communities which we serve. No matter what your position, you will have a vital role in safely feeding the world and taking care of our planet. Join us and help shape the future of agriculture.

About this opportunity: Help transform our data into the foundation for digital science and innovation in Technology and Digital Integration (TDI), Crop Protection R&D

As part of the Crop Protection strategic agenda, there has been significant focus and investment in digital transformation throughout our research and development functions and pipeline. Our ambition in TDI is to lead this exciting digital journey and provide data and digital expertise and technologies that enable R&D functions to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation which ultimately leads to sustainable food production for the planet. We do this through agile partnering with IT, R&D functions and external collaborators to shape, coordinate and relentlessly execute on our data and digital agenda.

Our digital challenges are vast and unique: from generative AI in chemical synthesis to multi-omics, and from computer vision and sensors to predictive safety, and streamlined regulatory submissions; the underlying theme is data, as our competitive advantage.

Qualifications

Therefore, we are looking for a competent and experienced data and metadata management expert to help us transform our data into the foundation for digital science and innovation. Reporting into the Data Strategy and Data Assets group in TDI, you are the go-to person for all things data management. You partner closely with data generators, data stewards, data consumers and IT to make sure our data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, as well as timely, trustworthy and compliant. You look at the end-to-end data flows and lifecycle, from generation/acquisition to exploitation and value, to establish, document and promote global and local data and metadata standards, as well as to document and implement the requirements for capture, standardisation, enrichment and integration. You are also key to the success of the data programme by acting as the Agile product owner for data management platforms and supporting change management across business functions and digital transformation initiatives.

You should have up-to-date expertise in data and information management with a strong focus on data standards, ontologies, master and reference data, and related data management concepts – less on engineering aspects. You are a doer with extensive experience applying data management principles and public domain standards to deliver impactful, analytics-ready data assets. You enjoy working in complex, matrix environments, shifting between strategic, product-based thinking and detailed, hands-on project work as the situation demands. You are well versed in the use of data management tools, query and scripting languages; you also have a good understanding of scientific R&D processes and the associated data/IT landscape.

You are likely to have a Masters’ degree or equivalent in STEM or data/informatics-related field, in combination with relevant practical experience in data management or data analytics, preferably in multinational life sciences organisations.

Superb communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team are essential.

In return for your skills and knowledge Syngenta will offer:

  • Flexible working location in office base and or home working

  • Competitive benefits package

  • The opportunity to work with and learn from highly qualified and experienced employees

We embrace and encourage diversity, and this is what drives our innovation and lets us outperform the market. www.syngenta.com/careers/working-syngenta/diversity-and-inclusion
