Transmission Electron Microscopy Scientist – 100%
We are looking for new colleagues in our international team. Besides the working languages German/Swiss German and English, at AnaPath we speak French, Italian, Vietnamese, Romanian, Japanese, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and Swedish.
High resolution and electron microscopy imaging is an increasing field at AnaPath. It is often integrated with histopathological evaluations, and it
provides mechanistic information to complete the traditional histology. In addition, AnaPath provides advanced biological services to the field of medical devices and chemical industry, often in need of additional services related to material sciences.
Open position:
Transmission Electron Microscopy Scientist – 100%
This position will require managing and leading the operations of AnaPath`s new Transmission Electron Microscope, improve techniques and develop services around this sector.
It will provide support to the principal investigators and pathologists for histological studies, as well as independent services. The focus is on the hands-on TEM activities at Anapath, which includes
processing of biological specimens, operating the advanced microscope and maintain its functionalities. Intracellular observations and element analysis will be key aspects. Therefore, an interdisciplinary technical background but still with high understanding of biological systems is favourable. The position will put demand on continuous development and scientific learning. Broad knowledge in the field of toxicology and biology is of advantage but will become a developing improvement during this position. As with multi-part studies, a good teamwork
spirit is necessary. In addition, AnaPath provides advanced biological services to the field of medical devices and chemical industry, often in need of additional services related to material sciences.
These services could include crystallographic analysis to determine the crystallographic nature and arrangement of samples or impurities (amorphous vs crystalline samples), metallurgy and associated
phase identification (like for example precipitates), diffraction, imaging under bright and dark TEM fields, identification of damage associated to phase transformation or mechanical stresses at the atomic scale, in situ TEM or environmental TEM analyses. Processing is of primary importance as the preparation of the samples is the key point to a good observation.
Qualifications:
– Higher education in material sciences, engineering, physics, math or post doc in life science with long hands-on experience with TEM.
– Solid understanding of the scientific and technical aspects of microscopy imaging, including principles of transmission electron microscopy, SEM, EDX, diffraction, spectroscopy and simulations.
– Extensive experience with TEM imaging and operational aspects is required.
– Expertise in sample preparation and biological materials for electron microscopy is of advantage.
– Experience in sample preparation for material science applications and associated interpretation of data is highly appreciated.
– Good management, problem solving and coordination skills
