The Position

The current and expected developments in the short and medium term in the pharmaceutical and diagnostic sectors will extensively redefine the regulatory and legal framework for the development, production and use of medicines and diagnostics. Policy initiatives in linked areas (such as climate, data management and intellectual property) will also impact those sectors. It is an unprecedented opportunity for you to contribute to shaping and delivering Roche’s contribution to building a sustainable and future-proof healthcare landscape in Europe.
The EU and Swiss Policy Leader will be part of the Roche Group Government Affairs Team. The Team strives to improve the political, legal and regulatory environment by interacting with a wide variety of stakeholders on international, regional and national level.
Purpose of the role
You will be a key player in the definition of the Roche Group activities on European affairs. You will be engaging with multiple internal partners on a daily basis, including senior leaders, to help define Roche positions, and you will ensure coordination across the Group on policy matters and outreach activities. You will deal with a variety of topics relevant to Roche, ranging from healthcare legislation to trade or environmental policy, in a fast-paced and multicultural environment.
Your key responsibilities & activities:
Pro-actively engage with stakeholders across Roche’s global and country-level functions and lead the development and coordination of Roche’s European policy strategy
Partner with other functions at the senior level, e.g. policy experts, general managers, to ensure alignment on EU and Swiss related policy activities
Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of internal/external policy dynamics, trends and requirements
Provide regular updates to different functions on European policy and regulatory developments including implications for product development, and propose strategic actions to address them
Coordinate and contribute to outreach activities at European level conducted by policy managers and other Roche functions
Coordinate Roche’s contributions to and interactions with EU and Swiss trade associations
Drive the development of priorities on EU and Swiss-related policy issues
Lead the creation of relevant policy positions, tools and data, and secure the implementation
This position is located in Basel, Switzerland.
Who you are
You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
You have a University degree in Political Sciences, Public Health, Law, Economics, Natural Sciences or related field. A relevant postgraduate degree (e.g. EU affairs) is considered a plus. You bring at least 3 years of experience working in government affairs, public affairs, international relations or related functions, of which at least 2 years in the pharmaceutical and medical devices or diagnostics industry.
In addition, you bring the following competencies:
Proven record of dealing with complex policy issues and the ability to communicate them clearly
Solid knowledge of the EU institutions, processes and relevant stakeholders and policy makers. You have a good understanding of the Swiss political system
Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical and diagnostics business and lifecycle. Familiarity with the Roche Group (structure, philosophy, vision, …) would be considered an asset
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to package content to tell a compelling story and persuade in verbal. Outgoing personality and proactive mindset, able to think strategically, with a sound big-picture view. Open minded and eager to learn
Strong consulting skills: active listening skills, ability to extract and quickly process key information, summarize key needs or interests of stakeholders, and provide targeted and appropriate insights and recommendations
Excellent command of oral and written German and English is required. Knowledge of an additional European language, especially of other EU working languages (French, Italian), is considered an asset
Team player with the capacity to interact with a wide array of internal partners, with different backgrounds and levels of experience, including senior management
Strong organizational skills and solid in project management. Ability to effectively lead and complete multiple priorities and projects
