The Commercial Insurance team at Zurich are continuing their strong year and are now looking to hire passionate high performer into their team, to further boost the expertise in our ML function.
As a Global Underwriting Manager – Management Liability Commercial (MLC) part of the Financial Lines and Cyber business, you will be overseeing the line of business underwriting governance, and directing large and/or complex MLC business to improve underwriting performance, providing underwriting leadership and effectively partnering with Zurich’s underwriting business units to execute underwriting strategy.
What you will do
As Global Underwriting Manager – Management Liability Commercial your main responsibilities will involve:
Key Accountabilities
Establishing and managing global line of business underwriting guidelines and underwriting governance framework.
Monitoring framework for underwriting decisions e.g. underwriting authorities, empowerment delegation, referrals and technical underwriting reviews.
Setting and delivering Underwriting Key Performance Indicators and overseeing the delivery of LoB plan.
Driving strategic LoB portfolio management and ensuring improvement of the LoB underwriting performance and execution of underwriting strategies.
Ensuring consistent risk selection and accurate underwriting across the business scope, enforcing a rigorous underwriting process and monitoring system.
Establishing exposure identification, addressing emerging issues, providing risk insights and identifying opportunities for growth or change within the line of business, setting the global strategic direction.
Responsible for the design, implementation and management of global risk assessment and pricing tools, underwriting risk awareness and response actions, underwriting risk monitoring and control activities.
Driving operational underwriting excellence and simplification, in collaboration with IT & Operations, to improve underwriting, reporting and portfolio management systems, enhancing data capturing, analytics and business insights
Ensuring effective leadership and management of underwriting people and financial resources, pursuing active talent management, driving capability development and creating a high-performance culture to achieve the line of objectives.
Leading and managing the line of business underwriting strategy for product development, driving global line of business products refresh, upgrades and innovation, ensuring global consistency
Developing, promoting and maintaining strategic partnerships both internally with other functions and externally with brokers and customers.
Overseeing underwriting engagement with industry and regulatory bodies.

What you will bring
As a Global Underwriting Manager – Management Liability Commercial your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Developing, negotiating and implementing global and complex strategic business and service plans; providing input to business unit strategies.
Optimizing allocation of resources and launching common products, projects, investments across business units.
Developing, expanding business opportunities, long-term customer relationships
Identifying opportunities and risks associated with changes in direction of external environment, looking forward 5+ years.
Producing results and achieving sustainable profits, either directly or by providing support by developing, implementing and monitoring business/operational plans.
Identifying which emerging issues (internal and external) are relevant to current and future needs and ensuring strategies, programs and processes incorporate these.
Ensuring that appropriate documentation, implementation and communication of established policies, procedures and operating standards is completed.
Regularly monitoring and evaluating activities to identify potential risks and issues of non-compliance.
Participating in or leading risk assessments, escalating potential issues.
Strong influencing and interpersonal skills to support underwriting leadership in multicultural environment
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) relevant to the line of business requirements
10 or more years of experience in the MLC or Financial Lines business
Proven experience of MLC line of business portfolio management and technical underwriting leadership
Strong MLC and Financial Lines experience globally, with proven record of significant underwriting management and leadership skills, across several geographies
Travel: Once the current situation has resolved, elements of travel in all regions may be required with the main focus in EMEA countries
