Nestlé Research is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, employs approximately 1000 people and is comprised of four Nestlé Institutes: Material Sciences; Health Sciences, Food Safety & Analytical Sciences and Packaging Sciences. To support its research strategy, the Digital Food Safety Department at the Nestlé Research is seeking a Specialist in Statistics and Mathematics. In this position, you will deliver mathematical expertise and/or consultancy to Nestlé Research projects linked to Food Safety and Analytical Sciences experimental design definition, statistical analysis, comprehensive result communication (reports, dashboard, tool). You will also develop a data driven mindset in Nestlé Institute for Food Safety and Analytical Sciences (NIFSAS) and in Nestlé Research in collaboration with other entities.

A day in the life of a Statistics Specialist


 



  • Understand project background and objectives and gather necessary information (factors, constraints) from Analytical Sciences and Food Safety experts 

  • Propose fit-for-purpose designs and datasets integrating identified constraints and available resources to answer the research questions

  • Identify the best data driven approach/model(s) to answer the research question 

  • Translate main results into relevant information for the food safety and analytical science activities, either through reporting or through tools allowing the model/approach to be used by defined customers 

  • Provide statistical consultancy to NIFSAS project teams upon needs 

  • Coach NIFSAS scientists on some activities around data visualization and basic data analysis
     


What will make you successful


 



  • PhD or Master Degree in Statistics or Mathematics

  • Good level in mathematics with a specialization in statistics and machine learning

  • Good interpersonal/teamwork skills and a good sense of business/technical interrelationships

  • Working experience in a support function and dealing with cross-functional teams and activities

  • Master R programming, experience in Python and R-Shiny are pluses

  • Good in written and oral communication in English
