In Ophthalmology, we strive to eliminate visual impairment and blindness. We develop and deliver life-changing medicines and therapies for diseases and conditions from front to back of the eye, enabled by data and transformative technologies. Our ophthalmic products reach more than 150M people each year, from preterm infants to the elderly.
As our Associate Director Development Unit (DU) Operations, you will be leading/coordinating diverse activities within Dev Unit that contribute to development, governance, digital and operational excellence aligned with Global Drug Development (GDD), DU strategy. In addition, you will manage business continuity, quality, compliance and system improvement to drive excellence and support DU goals.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Ensure smooth day-to-day operations on DU activities, keep oversight of budget and support finance activities incl. contracts, PLAs under DU budget, maintain x-functional resource overview as needed
• Serve as Board Secretary for Development Unit Leadership Team (DULT) and drive meeting excellence
• Support DU governance by managing agendas and creating meeting minutes. Maintain DU Share Point to support DULT documentation requirements.
• Foster DU identity and sense of community through leading internal communication activities and driving initiatives/ workstreams within DU and in partnership with NIBR, Commercial and GDD functions
• Contribute to portfolio strategy operationally by preparing/updating a consolidated view of DU program activities, milestones, risks and metrics from Novartis Portfolio systems
• Lead coordination within DU to track deliverables and support the Head of Franchise Portfolio Strategy and Operations (HPSO) to prepare portfolio updates for DU reporting obligations. Serve as a DU representative as assigned to business activities and represent the DU in various workstreams, cross-functional initiatives or process improvement initiatives as assigned by HPSO or DU Head
• Manage and/or contribute to cross-divisional initiatives as assigned by DU Head/ HPSO aimed at improving GDD science of operations, digital applications to fortify DU innovation, and productivity
• Support HPSO in interactions with Portfolio Strategy & Management function to ensure data are efficiently collected, consolidated, and accurately represented across portfolio updates, deputizes as needed.

Minimum requirements
What you’ll bring to the role:
• Advanced degree/ Masters in life sciences/chemistry (desired), or Bachelors plus Masters in Business Administration (preferable)
• Fluent English (oral and written)
• 6 + years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment or in a line function (drug development)
• Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology company experience. Broad understanding of drug development process; demonstrated success in planning and executing cross-functional projects
• Advanced portfolio management, planning, and tracking skills with attention to detail
• Highly organized with strong project management skills, and drive to meet organizational goals
• Strong interpersonal skills and expert team player with advanced ability to organize and build collaborative relationships across partner functions in a matrix environment
• Proficient with various IT modalities (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
