Job Summary

The Technical Buyer/Planner Supervisor will be responsible for reviewing demand and obtaining goods and/or services at the highest quality, lowest total cost, and maximize total value consistent with Commodity Leader sourcing strategies.  You will supervise the day-to-day activities of a team of Technical Purchasers for procurement of goods, materials, supplies and services that meet the company's standards in terms of price, quality, delivery time and reliability of supply.


In this role the incumbent will proactively analyse, interpret, and act upon information from ERP systems and determine if processes are in control, accurate and meet demand requirements. Effectively plans and executes supplier requirements and resolves problems to minimize interruptions to production, including assertively and professionally dealing with suppliers and as needed escalating issues to senior management.


As an integral part of the Sourcing and Ops Supply team, this person will work directly with Suppliers, Operations, Inventory Control, Sales, Accounting and Engineering to ensure excellent customer service levels while minimizing inventory investments.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities


  • Ensures that all activities are in compliance with company policies and practices.

  • Manages the commercial & supply routine/daily relationships with vendors, 3rd party suppliers and intercompany transactions, implementing portfolio strategies.

  • You supervise team members; you prioritise and assign tasks to ensure efficient use of team resources and the achievement of objectives in line with work programmes.

  • Issues Purchase Orders / Vendor Schedules for assigned commodities from approved and qualified suppliers as well as intercompany transactions, in sufficient lead time to prevent material shortages (Stock Outs), Back Orders and excess of Inventories. Recommends cost savings when possible.

  • You respond to enquiries referred to a higher level of management and review and authorise recommendations for third party purchases.

  • Resolves problems that arise in relation to delivery dates, quality, specifications, quantity or cost of purchased goods or services.

  • Supplier scheduling – maintain purchase order acknowledgment control system lead time maintenance and interface with material planners/master schedulers, Geneva and Plant sourcing leaders, quality control, engineering, suppliers, etc.

  • Reviews requisitions and confers with departments regarding requirements, specifications, quantity and quality of merchandise, and delivery requirements.

  • Escalates supply issues to EMEA and Supply Chain Leader and site Management when appropriate.

  • Support on routine functions (investigate discrepancies in prices, inventories, etc.) to insure data integrity.

  • Work with Supply Chain team to ensure that information sharing and requirements are aligned.

  • Ensure purchase order execution is consistent with Commodity Leader strategies.

  • Coordinate forecasts for all Demand Channels for assigned SKU’s.

  • Work with new product and transfer teams to develop effective product launch plans.


Expected Areas of Competence


  • Understands strategic cost issues and uses range of techniques for cost reduction to meet targets.

  • Ability to engage in medium value contract negotiations and develop contracts on a national or regional basis; create basic project plans and manage source plan and implementation across functions and sites.

  • Identifies alternative courses of action before choosing an approach; makes timely decisions in the best interest of the company and is willing to make decisions in uncertain conditions.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate quotations submitted by potential suppliers to assure that the quality, quantity, delivery terms, and costs are acceptable.

  • You are able to communicate in English both orally and in writing, clearly and concisely.

  • You have technical knowledge of the products and are familiar with industrial (mechanical) processes; you are able to understand detailed R&D plans.

  • Learns from experience, self-motivated, and seeks feedback on performance.

  • Demonstrates effective written and oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to prepare concise spreadsheets and present financial information in graphical form to support procurement decision making; prepare sourcing plans and communicate technical purchasing concepts to key customers.

  • You are a good listener, negotiator and persuader with strong management skills.


Education/Experience Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical area. Otherwise, education within Sourcing/Procurement area or equivalent job experience.

  • 4–7 years’ experience in Sourcing/Purchasing and/or Procurement and/or Supply Chain Management.

  • Experience in team management.

  • Experience in Medical Device Manufacturing preferred.


Travel Requirements

Up to 15% travel requirement.
