About the Role

Swiss Re is seeking a highly motivated Intern to support the global Actuarial Services Property & Casualty team located in Zurich in further developing rating models used to price property and casualty risks. This includes the analysis of loss and exposure data to derive rates and exposure curves.

Your tasks include:

• Review property loss and exposure data with the aim to update rates in various regions and industries


• Review US Motor increased limit factors for multiple vehicle classes and states


• Find an adequate clustering of the data and complement gaps in expert discussions with risk engineers and underwriters


• Come up with adequate modelling parameters and test sensitivities via scenario analysis


• Estimate rate modification factors for various aspects like risk quality


• Refine the data foundation and analysis methods in our business intelligence platform


• Support the development of a rate monitoring system

About the Team

The actuarial services P&C team is part of the P&C center. We are responsible for three areas:

• We develop the methods and tools used to price the single risk property and casualty business


• We make sure the underwriters have good parameters to price their business. We lead rate reviews for property and casualty business on industry level and review rate reviews performed by other units


• We are the go-to team for actuarial advice and perform the risk assessment for complicated deals or sensitive lines of business such as Medical Malpractice

About You

Do you have a background in mathematics, applied statistics or an actuarial sciences related discipline and bring hands-on experience in working in projects and statistical data analysis? Then this exciting intern position in our Actuarial Services P&C team in Zurich is certainly of interest to you. 
What we expect from you:

• You hold a degree (bachelor or master's degree) in mathematics, applied statistics or an actuarial sciences related discipline


• Powerful analytical, written and verbal communication skills


• You appreciate working in an agile team and have a curious and flexible personality


• You can perform tasks with a high degree of autonomy 


• You are passionate about working in an international and diverse environment


• Work experience is an advantage


• Proficiency in English; other languages are an advantage


• Skilled in statistical software and packages like R, Python, Power BI etc.


• Advanced user of MS Office applications. 

Duration of internship: 3-6 months, starting as soon as possible
