OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The Global Tuberculosis Programme (GTB) leads and guides the global effort to end the TB epidemic through universal access to people-centred prevention and care, multisectoral action and innovation. GTB specifically: provides global leadership to end TB through strategy development, political and multisectoral engagement, strengthening review and accountability, advocacy, and partnerships, including with civil society; shapes the TB research and innovation agenda and stimulates the generation, translation and dissemination of knowledge; develops policy options, norms and standards for TB prevention and care and facilitates their implementation; provides specialized technical support for Member States and partners, working with WHO regional and country offices to catalyse change and build sustainable capacity; and monitors, evaluates and reports on the status of the TB epidemic and progress in financing and implementation of the End TB Strategy at global, regional and country levels.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Review of data that are collected from Member States in annual rounds of global TB data collection, and follow-up with countries as appropriate. Analysis of data that are collected from Member States in annual rounds of global TB data collection, and the preparation of related figures, tables and text for WHO's global TB report, regional and country profiles, papers for publication, customized analyses and fact sheets. Contribute to the development of guidance, tools and related support for the transition from paper to digital case-based national surveillance systems for TB, including provision of specialized technical assistance to selected countries. Contribute to the development of guidance, tools and related support for the routine analysis and use of epidemiological, economic and other relevant data for planning and prioritization of TB activities, including via the development or maintenance of global data repositories, production of eLearning material, country missions, meetings and workshops. Provide customized information, analyses and advice to other teams in WHO and external partners, using the data held in WHO's global TB database and other relevant databases. Contribute to the design, implementation, analysis and reporting of periodic national surveys to measure the burden of TB disease, including production of guidance on survey methods, provision of technical assistance to surveys in selected countries, preparation of summary material on major results and lessons learned for WHO's global TB report, and preparation of papers for peer-reviewed journals. Contribute to other work in TME, as appropriate.Perform all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: A first-level university degree in a quantitative-related subject (e.g. mathematics, economics, computer sciences, information technology, or related subject
Desirable: An advanced university degree (Masters level or above) in epidemiology, health informatics, health economics, or closely related subject.
Experience
Essential: At least five years of experience related to epidemiology, economics/financing or health information systems, including analytical work with large databases. At least two years of experience working on data analyses related to TB. Two years of experience of working on projects, studies or analyses related to developing countries. Relevant experience of working with governmental, academic and international organizations/institutions. Demonstrated exposure at the international level.
Desirable: Experience of working with WHO or the UN System. Experience of designing and building end-to-end data repositories and/or configuring and using a health information system (e.g. DHIS2). Experience of developing teaching material, particularly in eLearning format. Experience of working on analyses required for major global reports. Proven ability to publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Skills
Excellent knowledge of principles and methods related to the analysis of epidemiological and/or economic and financial data. Excellent analytical and data management skills, including a high level of competency in a statistical package (either Stata or R). Good understanding of health information system design and implementation. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to prepare high-quality presentations. Ability to develop tools and related guidelines. Proven ability to work in a wide variety of countries, and to facilitate workshops and country missions. Ability to be proactive/take initiative, work independently. Excellent at working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 62,120 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4105 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
