Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Global Data Privacy Officer this position serves as the regional Data Privacy Officer DACH & Eastern Europe for the Company. This regional role will manage the company’s Data Privacy program in the Region. The role will provide oversight, advice, guidance, contractual and regulatory interpretation involving data privacy in the Region, with an initial key focus on the GDPR.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as an interface with regional authorities as the Data Privacy Officer for all legal entities in the Region
Support GDPO and legal and IT colleagues in further maturing data privacy practices in the Region
Draft and work on all relevant Data Privacy documents in the Region (e.g. contracts, templates, privacy notices, data transfer/processing agreements, etc.)
Provide contractual and regulatory interpretation (with an initial key focus on the GDPR) involving data privacy in the Region as it relates to the company both now and in the future
Support privacy impact assessments conducted by the Information Security team on the Company’s key business processes where legal guidance is required
Advise the business in the Region on legal compliance requirements applicable to the privacy and management of the personal information of customers, employees and other individuals with whom the Company interacts and related confidential personal information
Work with Learning Management System colleagues to drive required employee education and compliance with data privacy requirements
Work closely with local Information Security Team to establish, develop and maintain the Company’s data privacy policies and standards
Advise Compliance, Internal Audit and Information Security functions concerning regional requirements for data privacy assessment, audit, risk evaluation, remediation, in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements
Support and work closely with the local and corporate Information Security team on critical incident management processes in addressing suspected or actual data privacy and security incidents globally.
Remain current on legal, regulatory, industry, political and macroeconomic developments affecting data protection and privacy in the Region
Work to establish key relationships with regulators in the Region
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
The role requires an experienced lawyer with demonstrable presence and interpersonal skills sufficient to function successfully in a highly visible, dynamic and challenging position
Business fluent German and English language skills are a must for this role
Qualified practicing lawyer in Germany, Austria or Switzerland with a degree from an accredited international university
At least 8 years’ post qualification experience as a practicing data privacy lawyer preferably with a large and global corporation. Labor Law expertise and experiences with works councils are a plus
Detailed knowledge of data protection/privacy requirements, laws and regulations, and experience of providing advice relating to cyber security
The ability to lead and work collaboratively with a regionally dispersed team and to engage and influence in a matrix organization
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills which can be applied to both internal and external relationships with the ability to reconcile compliance requirements with business needs as far as is possible
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adept at analyzing and interpreting laws and regulations
