In addition to those professional responsibilities which are common to all classroom teachers, the dance or music position focuses on designing learning opportunities for students to explore expression, creativity and performance through the techniques and methods of dance and drama or music The position involves teaching students throughout the Primary School, age 6-11 years.
Responsibilities
Classroom Tasks
Plan and prepare the daily activities and provide dance and drama or music classes from Grade 1 to 5
Teach dance and drama or music theory and terminology through an exploratory, inquiry approach
Teach and improve dance and drama or music techniques with close connection to the ICS Arts scope and sequence
Create units which teach students physical and spacial awareness, use of body to express artistic ideas, musicality, choreography skills, stage presentation, acting styles, character development, personal projection etc.
Involve students in broader aspects of dance and drama or music such as designing, props, choosing music, developing stage settings Research, develop, purchase and adapt learning materials and make imaginative use of resources
Celebrate the cultural diversity of the school population and explore possible links with home countries and cultures
Select appropriate pieces and prepare yearly dance and drama or music production according to students’ abilities.
Supervise rehearsals
Other Tasks
Liaise within the Arts Team to ensure that programme requirements are met
Support the yearly productions
Plan and make schedule for productions and inform all involved (eg. parents etc)
Inform Homeroom Teacher about issues of concern related to student welfare, achievement and behaviour
Attend Parent/Teacher and Student-led conferences
Attend meetings for planning and administration
Attend in-service training and professional development workshops
Research developments in the profession and studies relevant professional literature
Keep up to date with the latest dance trends, moves, rhythm, music genre and artists
Engage in the annual Appraisal Process in accordance with the school’s policy
Requirements
Qualification in Performing Arts and/or Dance and/or Music Education
Qualified Primary school Teacher
Previous Teaching Experience within the last 2 years
Experience in an international school environment advantageous
PYP knowledge preferred
Experience in teaching learners with diverse needs
Strong classroom management skills
Strong organisational skills
IT competence
The applicant must demonstrate knowledge of the developmental needs of children of 5-11 years
Empathy and social skills
Documented record of excellence in teaching
Collaboration, teamwork and active participation in school life
Terms and conditions
The initial contract is for two years and is renewable. The generous salary and range of benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate, with the overall package reflecting the importance of the position.
