Job Description


JOB PURPOSE:


The Physical Safety Engineer develops and implements various safety programs at Biogen’s NGM Production Site in Solothurn. 


The position provides daily oversight of relevant safety programs including Commissioning Safety, Pre Startup Safety Review, Confined Spaces, Working at Height, Log Out Tag Out, JHA, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Explosion Protection, Fire Protection, Contractor Management and Work Permits.


In addition, this function plays a critical role regarding EHS inspections, emergency response and EHS training.


The individual is responsible for assessing and mitigating risks at the Solothurn site to minimize lost time due to injuries, illness or business interruptions.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  1. Develops and implements site specific procedures in terms of Commissioning Safety, Pre Startup Safety Review, Confined Spaces, Working at Height, Log Out Tag Out, JHA, Hot Work, Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, Explosion Protection, Fire Protection, Contractor Management and Work Permits.
    Provides EHS training and ensures that above mentioned procedures are followed in daily operations.

  2. Performs Hazard Situation, Near Miss and Incident Investigations, Root Cause Analysis, Job Hazard Assessments, Risk Assessments, Process Safety Assessments, HAZOPs, Regular EHS Walks and EHS Inspections and takes care for the follow-up of myEHS reports.

  3. Creates and promotes Safety Awareness Program and Safety Culture Program.

  4. Participates in EHS Management System related activities including annual risk assessment of site-based activities, defining training and communication strategies, developing meaningful performance metrics, performing program audits and managing EHS related events.
    Ensures CAPAs and root causes are appropriate and closed in a timely manner.


Qualifications


Education:



  • B.S. in life sciences, safety, environmental or other similar field required. 


Required Qualifications: 



  • 3-5 years of environment, health and safety experience, preferably in the life science industries.

  • Professional certification (Certified Safety Professional, Safety Engineer, EHS Engineer, Certified Industrial Hygienist or similar country-specific designations) is required.

  • English and German is a must.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills focused on collaboration, innovation, inclusion and communication required.

  • In depth knowledge of safety related legislation.

  • Experience in terms of implementation of safety procedures and programs required.

  • Advanced knowledge of EHS Management Systems, technical programs and Swiss regulations required.

  • In-depth knowledge of drug development process with particular emphasis on large scale bioprocessing highly desirable.

  • Skilled presented and speaker; presents in professional settings; excellent writing skills
