DevOps Tech Lead / Cloud Robotics

100%, Zurich, permanent Our quadruped robot ANYmal is equipped with state-of-the-art perception sensors (LIDAR, stereo cameras, etc.) to achieve autonomous inspection of challenging industrial environments such as renewable energy power stations, chemical facilities, and mining processing plants. From a DevOps perspective, we see this as a unique production environment where the robots act as IoT devices controlled and monitored by the cloud infrastructure. To meet the challenges for the products and solutions we wish to offer on a large scale, our infrastructure must evolve in the areas of automated system configuration, monitoring and data collection capabilities, as well as security.  This could be your chance to shape and implement novel solutions which seamlessly integrate into our hybrid platform.

Job description

We are looking for a strong and motivated team member to actively shape the evolution of these systems with us, expanding our already good CI/CD and stable infrastructure into a smart, world-class system for a more intelligent collection, segmentation and use of data from the field. We already interconnect development and operations, and see DevOps as one collaborative unit. Yet, currently we are too heavy on “Dev”. The ideal candidate will bring solid “Ops” knowledge and experience (especially in the Deploy, Operate and Monitor areas of the DevOps chain) with enough skills and interest in scripting to help improve and actively update our Python and Bash code. Topics like  “Infrastructure as Code”, “Data Architecture”, “Hybrid Cloud”, “IoT data and security” excite you, such that you will naturally provide technical leadership in these areas and others. You should feel at ease working in a small agile team, leading discussions, proposing novel solutions and executing them from implementation to support.

Your contributions

• Shape and implement cloud solutions to configure, operate, and monitor fleets of robots


• Build up data collection and storage infrastructure for telemetry, future data science & machine learning applications


• Integrate tools and drive infrastructure changes for efficient software development, fast learning response


• Participate in key stages of software development and collaborate with different teams


• Drive team understanding of DevOps and generally contribute positively to company culture

Your profile

• Ability to drive and self-coordinate complex systems projects with the active support of our strong collaborative environment


• Work with a pragmatic, iterative mindset when delivering feature refinements and improvements


• Sufficient experience as a DevOps Engineer,  System Administrator or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to demonstrate your knowledge and ability to technically implement DevOps tools and technology improvements (e.g. system & tool integration, Hybrid Cloud, IaC)


• Excellent hands-on experience with at least one of the major cloud providers: AWS, Google, Azure


• Proficient with Linux and common tools


• Good hands-on knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible or similar tools


• Experience with virtualization and containerization, such as virtual machines, Docker or buildroot


• Up-to-date knowledge on IT security


• Basic scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) and Git workflows
