We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the Global Commercial Insurance Underwriting team. In this role, you will:


 



  • Be solving high impact business problems with a particular focus on Underwriting, for example: understanding claims drivers, portfolio optimization or improving our risk selection,

  • Learn how Commercial Insurance works at its core, including dedicated training,

  • Be part of an entrepreneurially minded global team, which is daring to challenge the status quo,

  • Developing and driving adoption of our main global Underwriting analytical product suite,

  • Further develop your hard skills by working with internal and external analytics experts.


 


What you will do


 


As a Data Scientist / Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:


 



  • Working on high impact projects with end-to-end responsibility for their success

  • Generating insights from internal and external data sources, using a wide range of tools and methodologies, e.g., from building complex data pipelines to applying Semantics and/or Machine Learning

  • Analyzing business problems independently and assess right technology approach of how to solve them

  • Implementing proof of concepts and full-scale solutions

  • Building models translating insight into action

  • Presenting findings to project members and senior stakeholders

  • Coordinating directly with application users globally (with particular focus on adoption)

  • Experimenting with new analytical techniques and capabilities


 


What you will bring:


 



  • Can-do attitude, with a clear focus on the end product and user experience

  • Passion to tackle real business problems and persistency to follow through with your recommendations

  • Strong experience in model development; in particular, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning

  • Strong experience in text classification, entity extraction, clustering & topic modeling

  • Strong experience with R, Python, SQL, Spark/Scala

  • Experience with building pipelines on large/complex datasets

  • Experience in software product management (note that our understanding of Product Management is closer to a Software company and much broader than a Product Owner in classic Scrum)

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Good team player

  • Excellent written and spoken English, other European languages are a plus

  • Experience with web-scraping is a plus

  • Prior work experience in (re)-insurance not required, but a plus

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, in particular, Databricks, is a plus
