Job Responsibilities


 



  • Conduct in vivo experimental models of disease in rodents, including:

    • Development and induction of disease models in the field of immunology

    • Delivery of drug regimens using various routes of administration (IV, PO, SC, IV, IP)

    • Assessment of animal health throughout the study (health checks, clinical observations, disease scoring)  

    • Harvest and preparation of samples (organ dissection, body fluid sampling, tissue sampling, cell isolation for further in vitro studies)

    • Surgical skills


  • Development and validation of new animal models, and ex-vivo and in-vitro assays according to the need of the department

  • Skilled in relevant immunology techniques such as flow cytometry, antigen-specific immune assays, ELISAs, cell culture assays

  • Independent planning, execution, documentation in an electronic laboratory journal, analysis of experiments and interpretation of results in collaboration with colleagues

  • Writing of experimental protocols and complex reports under supervision

  • Review relevant literature to optimize experimental methods, stimulate new ideas and develop new assays for experimental studies

  • Presentation of results within a multidisciplinary team environment

  • Contribute to the general lab infrastructure, including ordering of consumables, and coordinating with colleagues the workflow, organization, maintenance, and function of lab resources


 


Candidate’s Requirements 


 



  • Apprenticeship as a laboratory technician with additional BSc of a Swiss “Fachhochschule” or a BSc / bac +3 in Pharmacology/Biology/Immunology from a University 

  • Be recognized from the BVET as an animal experimenter (LTK1 or equivalent) 

  • Previous working experience in the field of Biology/Immunology

  • Show technical expertise in all aspects of in vivo pharmacology (animal handling, immunization, body fluid sampling, isolation, and further ex vivo characterization of different cell types).

  • Practical background in different in vitro techniques (flow cytometry, ELISAs, primary cell culture handling, cytokine detection assays)

  • Capability of handling several assays or projects at the same time

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English; additional knowledge of German and/or French preferred Well trained in computer programs: Excel, Power Point, Word, GraphPad Prism

  • Ability to plan, perform, analyze, and accurately document experiments independently with minimum supervision

  • Dynamic, flexible, scientifically curious, willingness to learn, and strong commitment and motivation to work in an innovation-driven environment

  • The candidate must also be willing and able to share weekend work duties with other members of the team
