The Department of Biomedicine is one of the leading Life Science Research Departments of the University of Basel active in both basic and applied research. As Research assistant you will join the Cancer Immunotherapy group whose goal is to improve cancer treatment by targeting glycans in the tumor microenvironment. The position is ideal for Master students looking to gain experience in a research environment before applying to PhD programs. The position is available starting July 1st.


Your position



  • Establishing experimental plans and protocols according to priorities.

  • Culturing of mammalian cell lines, including maintenance and amplification, banking, growth, quality control and characterization of multiple cell lines.

  • Isolating and culturing of primary human or mouse cells (ex. isolation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells - PBMC).

  • Running in vitro experiments using e.g. flow cytometry, proliferation assays, ELISA, western blot,

  • Preparing samples for next-generation sequencing (RNA-seq, BCR-seq)

  • Summarizing results in reports and presenting them


Your profile



  • You are an efficient, proactive and enthusiastic person, motivated to bring tasks to completion

  • Hands-on experience in cell culture and cell isolation.

  • Hands-on experience with cellular assays and standard readouts such as ELISA

  • Experience in flow cytometry is an advantage

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Ability to work independently and in a group as multi-cultural team player

  • Good scientific tool IT-knowledge (Excel, data bases, graphical software)
