Postdoc position
In structural characterization of viral and membrane proteins by cryo-electron microscopy

A postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis at the University of Bern, Switzerland. The Fotiadis laboratory is working on the elucidation of the molecular working mechanisms of different viral and membrane proteins by structure determination and functional characterization.

We are searching for a highly motivated, independent and committed candidate who is willing to tackle challenges in the field of viral and membrane protein research. Candidates should have a Master of Science (M. Sc.) degree and a Ph.D. thesis in molecular biology, biochemistry, structural biology or similar disciplines.

Practical expertise in structure determination by cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM; from grid preparation to image processing/3D reconstruction) is requested (important requirement). The mission of the candidate will be to determine the structure of specific viral and/or membrane proteins by cryo-EM. Depending on the project, the candidate's work will also include the purification and biochemical characterization (SDS-PAGE, gel filtration, etc.) of corresponding target proteins. Expertise in membrane protein biochemistry (e.g., solubilization and purification) is of advantage. Cryo-EM infrastructure is available and functional. In addition, a last generation high-end Krios electron microscope will be present beginning/mid of 2022 at the University of Bern.To apply, please send CV, publication list, letter of motivation (one page max.) and 2-3 references to Prof. Dimitrios Fotiadis (see contact address below). Qualified female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.Postdoc salary is paid according to the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation.Entrance: Upon mutual agreement
