About the team you are joining


Reporting to the Head, E-Commerce and Cargo Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of the special cargo agenda, delivering standards, business processes and solutions for the air cargo supply chain related to the transport of live animals, perishables and temperature sensitive cargo and all other special cargo.


This includes the development, maintenance and promotion of the standards through cooperation with international organizations, trade associations such as UNICEF, CITES, OIE, Pharma.Aero, CCA and ATA) as well as providing support to the implementation of the standards by the industry stakeholders. 


What your day would be like


Acting as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all topics touching the portfolio, your day would consist of the following technical, business development and project management activities:



  • Lead and manage the special cargo team providing strategic direction aligned to IATA’s strategy and support.

  • Secretary to the live animals and perishables board (LAPB), a Cargo Services Conference (CSC) subgroup, lead the development of the agenda, drafting standards, resolutions, regulatory responses, run the meetings efficiently and produce the required outputs.

  • Responsible for the standards published in the Live Animals Regulations, Perishable Cargo Regulations and Temperature Control Regulations and associated materials together with the publications and commercial teams.

  • Represent IATA in relevant industry forums and with industry stakeholders (in industry meetings, conferences, events, etc.).

  • Ensure relationships are developed to ensure access to insights, key innovations and trends useful towards the continued improvement process in airfreight of special cargo.

  • Manage MoUs with multiple organizations and the associated workplans. Current MoUs include, UNICEF, CITES, OIE, CCA and Pharma.Aero.

  • Work closely in collaboration with key parties to ensure success is achieved on the above in the context of the larger global vision for special cargo.

  • Support the commercial activities such as publications, events and CEIV with subject matter expertise and standards development.

  • Support end to illegal wildlife trafficking through work with CITES and the IATA Environment team.

  • Coordinate various ad-hoc project activities as required by the business.

10-15 years of professional experience with proven success as team leader; successful leadership experience in change management at organizational and/or industry level.


Excellent stakeholder management skills, ability to collaborate with people in a multi-cultural environment in different regions across the globe and gain consensus


Experience with one or several components of special cargo in the air logistics supply chain (airline/forwarder/shipper etc.)


Strong drive and desire to positively impact the air cargo industry.


Ability to work autonomously, driving multiple projects simultaneously and delivering tight deadlines.


Excellent communication skills: interpersonal, written and verbal. Ability to interact with people of all cultures and levels.


Excellent organizational skills, with a strong focus on quality and an eye for detail.


Dynamic personality, flexible, team-oriented, and able to show initiative and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.


Excellent written and spoken English with additional languages an asset.


Travel Required: 20-30
