JOB DESCRIPTION

Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority. Intuitive Surgical’s Aubonne engineering group designs new imaging systems for surgical robotics.  Within Intuitive Surgical’s overall engineering effort, the Aubonne engineering group designs cameras and imaging systems to be used by surgeons to see new information about the surgical site.  We are looking for an engineer who can work well in a small group and is a hands-on, self-motivated, self-directed, technically strong Algorithms Engineer, ideally with experience in imaging and an interest in medical & novel imaging methods.     


Primary Function of Position


The Algorithms Engineer brings a key contribution to a team responsible for the design and implementation of algorithms to develop clinically relevant novel imaging, developed by the Aubonne engineering group.


Roles and Responsibilities



  • Develop and innovate in new imaging methods involving sensor fusion

  • Create algorithms to extract relevant information from data of various imaging modalities

  • Analyze data acquired with novel imaging systems

  • Collaborate closely with other engineers in a multidisciplinary team


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • Minimum BSc in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics/Physics. MSc or PhD is a plus.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role with demonstrated ability:

    • to develop algorithms for imaging

    • to develop engineering software in Python or Matlab or C/C++


  • Strong interest and ability to develop new ideas and to see them through to realization and evaluation

  • Demonstrated success in pursuing a line of inquiry, explore, present various options, and being open to feedback

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team in a rapidly moving environment

  • Self-motivated and ability to self-direct with a track record of successful project completion

  • Fluency in English both spoken and written


Preferred but non-mandatory Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • Experience in algorithmic development in one or more of the following technology areas 3D graphics, 3D modeling, hyperspectral imaging, time-of-flight imaging, imaging algorithms, 3D reconstruction, scanning, light fields

  • Experience in machine learning
