Primary Function of Position:


We are seeking an Electronic Design Engineer to join the Vision Engineering group at Intuitive Surgical in Aubonne, Switzerland. The team is focused on current and novel imaging modes and camera systems which will offer surgeons an improved visual experience while performing minimally invasive procedures. The successful candidate will work on systems that help us invent the future of imaging-based intelligent robotic surgery.


We are looking for a technically strong Electronic Design Engineer, who is hands on, self-motivated, and self-directed with an interest in medical & novel imaging methods. The successful candidate has experience in analog and digital board-level electronics and system development and preferably familiarity with camera or medical equipment development.


She/he will have opportunities to work on state-of-the-art products and technologies within the da Vinci® platforms.


The Electronic Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of analog and digital front ends for various and novel imaging devices for robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery.


Roles and Responsibilities:



  • Develop PCB-level systems for novel imaging applications

  • Define, design, implement, prototype, bring up, and evaluate custom PCBs and embedded systems

  • Bring up, debug, perform root-cause analysis, and design improvements

  • Develop test fixtures and metrics and validate the imaging systems designs

  • Collaborate closely with the multi-disciplinary engineering team  


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related studies, with minimum of five years of industry experience.  Master’s degree with minimum of three years of industry experience is preferred. PhD is a plus.

  • Ideally 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role including:

  • Experience in concept, design, implementation, manufacturing, bring-up, and evaluation of electronic board-level systems

  • Experience with modern PCB design tools and methodology

  • Proficiency with analog, digital, and high-speed board design and layout

  • Experience with design miniaturization

  • Experience with electronic lab equipment and instrumentation

  • Fluent in English both spoken and written

  • Self-motivated and ability to self-direct with a track record of successful project completion

  • Excellent analytical ability, problem-solving, and comprehensive troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team in a rapidly moving environment


Preferred but non-mandatory Knowledge, Skills, and Experience



  • Experience with imaging systems involving cameras

  • Experience with systems comprising multiple engineering disciplines

  • Knowledge in FPGA design and/or microcontroller design

  • Knowledge of medical imaging or other imaging thechniques such as hyperspectral imaging, FLIM, LIDAR, TOF, or SPADs a plus
