OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The HWF department's main objectives are to ensure that all people have equitable access to an adequately trained, skilled and supportive health workforce, in order to attain the highest possible level of health. The Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030, the report of the UN High Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic Growth, and WHO's General Programme of Work represent the main reference frameworks that determine the strategic and operational priorities of the health workforce department. In addition, the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel provides the overarching reference framework for the international community and for the WHO Secretariat to optimize collaboration on issues relating to international mobility of the health workforce.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: An advanced (post-graduate) university degree (Master's level or above) in the health sciences (e.g. public health) or law.
Desirable: Advanced university degree in global health law. PhD level studies in a relevant field
Experience
Essential: A minimum of ten years of progressive professional experience in health system strengthening, management, education, regulation of health personnel, including at national and international levels, with demonstrable focus on human resources for health, including on international mobility of health personnel. Demonstrated experience at the international level.
Desirable: Progressive professional experience in working on collaborative national and international projects with United Nations agencies and/or international organisations/NGOs.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 89,837 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 6363 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
