Summary:

The Secretariat of the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) has a Member of Secretariat vacancy that would suit an experienced research economist with a solid understanding of financial market structures and developments, including financial market infrastructure (FMI) oversight and related regulatory issues.

 

Principal accountabilities:



  • Defines and carries out specific economic research projects with a view to providing analytical support for meetings of senior central bank officials and internal briefings, and to contributing to CPMI papers as well as BIS and external publications.

  • Monitors and analyses developments in FMIs and their implications for the functioning and stability of the financial system.

  • Provides secretariat support for the CPMI and its working groups and task forces, including those established together with other standard setting bodies. Ensures and organises the support activities of a particular subgroup, in coordination with the subgroup chair and line manager.

  • Prepares background analysis for meetings of high-level central bank officials on FMI issues.

  • Organises the preparation, publication and distribution of reports drawn up by the CPMI or its subgroups.

  • Establishes and maintains professional contacts and effective communication within the BIS, with the central banking and regulatory communities, and with selected market participants, industry groups, and academia.

  • Represents the BIS and the CPMI in meetings hosted by central banks and at other international organisations. Gives presentations on the work of the CPMI at seminars and conferences.

 

Qualification, experience and skills required:



  • PhD in economics or finance from a university of international standing and/or several years of relevant work experience.

  • Solid understanding of financial market structures and developments, including FMI oversight and other regulatory issues.

  • Advanced expertise and experience with issues related to FMIs, in particular their resilience and risk management.

  • Experience in applying economic analysis to real-world situations, preferably from working at an international organisation, central bank or financial regulatory agency.

  • Excellent drafting and communication skills in English for both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Team spirit and good interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to travel.

  • International experience would be beneficial.
