VMware App Navigator is a service offering created in the belief that when change is hard, iteration is best. As Solution Lead, you are the known domain thought leader for Portfolio-focused Navigator delivery within an aligned sector or geography. You spend half of your time with sales and prospective customers - enabling VMware teams, speaking at internal / external events, pitching prospective customers, and proposing tailored solutions. The remainder of your time is spent working post-sales with customers (in an advisory capacity), building software tools, inventing delivery methods, and coaching/mentoring the team on emerging practices. You must be able to respond quickly to unanticipated events while effectively managing existing workload. The position is highly collaborative and you must be comfortable working in a distributed, matrixed organizational environment.
During the COVID-19 crisis, this role will be 100% remote, with the expectation that face-to-face engagement in a VMware or customer office will be required once the crisis is resolved. At this future date, you may be asked to travel up to 50% of the time.
Inspire, connect and influence our community of practitioners and critical external partners
Active participation in internal pan-VMware community events such as RADIO, and external events such as VMworld and SpringOne
Invent, experiment, iterate and evolve delivery tooling and practices that help promote delivery quality, consistency and scale
Collaborate with the global strategy group within VMware Pivotal Labs on creating and rolling out new client offerings, ways of working, and technologies
Working in an advisory capacity across multiple projects; jumping in as necessary to maximize quality and customer satisfaction
Collaborating with sales teams to close business with new and existing customers
Tailors sales pitches to meet customer needs. Deep understanding of which service offerings make sense for a given pain point
Crafting customer solutions based on loose requirements or high level objectives
Liaise with global and regional business leaders on quarterly and annual strategies, supporting rollout and implementation of those strategies
Contributing back to the VMware team through mentorship, giving talks, and experience reports
10+ years of career progression with deep focus on your domain of expertise, with broadening impact on customers, team and organization
Agile practitioner with cloud transformation and modernization experience
Self-starter who is happy and productive working inside a large, highly-matrixed organization.
Polished communication skills; able to explain complex topics using simple words.
Ability to facilitate key meetings and workshops, using tools and practices to help understand a problem space and lead senior-level stakeholders toward potential solutions.
Experience with a platform as a service product such as Cloud Foundry, Heroku, Elastic Beanstalk, or similar
Experience with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud or OpenStack
Have an understanding of – or implementation experience in – building Twelve-Factor applications, and using Domain Driven Design
Understanding of distributed / service oriented / microservice-style and cloud based application architectures
Experience leading large development teams or leading complex product development
An active listener with excellent communications and interpersonal skills, with an ability to utilizes different styles of questioning techniques and manage conflict and objection handling
Ability to resolve conflict and remain calm in heated situations
Strong knowledge of the Cloud platform and application technology ecosystem
Ability to Work From Home until sufficient resolution of the COVID-19 Crisis
Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time (post-Covid)
