Job Purpose and Impact

The Ocean Transportation Academy aims to attract young professionals and fresh graduates with different educational background ranging from Data Science to Sustainability, with the purpose of building a talent pipeline able to support our future strategy.


In the 18 months assignment program, we will provide you with a rotational program in our trading, risk management, vessel operations and analytics teams to equip you with foundational merchandising and trading competency in shipping. Besides working proactively with other team members to complete the work required, you will take ownership of a project and work regularly with your project sponsor to review milestones and deliverables. You will also dedicate time outside the day-to-day work to develop your soft-skills.

Key Accountabilities



  • Participate in an assignment rotation program in different departments including trading, risk management, vessel operations and analytics. Develop and nurture strategic customer relationships, contribute to enhance digitalization and optimize trade capture process.


  • Participate in trade life cycle, including contract negotiation, trade entry and physical execution, as well as profit and loss analysis.


  • Analyze supply and demand data and market/economic conditions to explore ways to innovate and improve data analysis.


  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.


  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Confirmed analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent influencing skills.

  • Strong learning agility and adaptability to a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to handle risks and ambiguity.

  • Strong team player and thrive in a diverse and multicultural environment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's degree or other post-secondary degree

  • Digital savvy: strong analytical, quantitative and numeric skills. Proficient in excel, good knowledge of data science tools, visual analytics technologies and programming language. Business Acumen and Commercial Excellence: comfort in taking and managing risks and challenging the status quo. Knowledge in trading techniques. Ability to gather customer insights and translate problems into valuable and strategic opportunities. Focus on overall business drivers. 

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm: intellectual curiosity and learning agility, creativity and innovation. 

  • Customer Focus: problem-solving skills, marketing skills, strong persuasion and negotiation skills. 

  • Strategy Agility: big picture thinking, anticipate emerging trends and bring the outside-in.
