Engineered Systems Engineer - Exadata

Your field of responsibility

 

  • Hosting & Data Services (HDS) Group is responsible for providing all technology and associated infrastructure services within Credit Suisse globally. This division reports directly to the Group Chief Information Officer who represents IT on the ExB. The division consists of several sub-departments including Transformation Service and Relationship Management, Enterprise & Security Services, IT Strategy & Architecture, Hosting & Data Services (HDS), CFO technology, Group Operations Solutions. 

  • The position in question is within the HDS Database as a Service (DBaaS) department, which is responsible for providing all Database services.

We are a new infrastructure service offering within the DBaaS group providing Oracle database services on Oracle’s extreme performance, highly engineered Exadata Platform. The Exadata platform is a fully integrated technology stack consisting of storage, compute and database software. You will join a team of Database and Engineering specialists based in London, Wroclaw and Zurich providing day-to-day production and engineering support to a number of applications with very high performance requirements. The team provides services such as engineering/strategy/project and application design consultancy to a diverse client base incorporating Front and Back office business units. The candidate is expected to deliver on an Engineering book-of-work, assist in diagnosis and resolution of real-time incidents, performance issues and execute planned maintenance activities.


The role requires both weekend work and shift working. 


Most meaningful tasks are as follows:



  • Maintain platform and database performance and availability to critical applications

  • Where necessary, Provide 3nd line SME troubleshooting and analysis services.

  • Ensure platform meets and maintains all compliance standards and controls.

  • Contribute to platform engineering, eco-systems integration and compliance and controls design – OpsEng function.


Key responsibilities:



  • Manage Engineering tasks, built, test, deploy and document according to agreed processes.  

  • Perform platform and database Infrastructure changes including some weekend work.

  • Provide consultancy support to internal teams and collaborate with operational teams to increase platform stability, performance and compliance. 

  • Maintain and automate routine platform tasks such as configuration management and security patching. 


Your skills and experience

 

  • Excellent opportunity to support a multi-disciplined database, storage, compute and network platform.

  • Working closely with the Engineering lead to deliver a book of work based on agile, scrum methodologies and JIRA.

  • Opportunity to build and define the strategic direction of the Exadata platform, define standards and automate builds, configurations and compliance tasks.

  • Tier 1 investment bank working experience


Essentials Skills and Qualifications:



  • Previous Exadata systems administration is highly desirable.

  • Candidates with very strong knowledge in Linux or Oracle database systems administration is desirable.

  • Extensive Database or Systems Administration experience, preferably in a previous Engineering or Production Support role would be advantageous.

  • Linux Operating system, ideally Oracle Linux or Redhat, looking to gain database experience strongly considered. 

  • Experience with Oracle Linux virtualization, Networking or storage systems is a bonus.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exposure or knowledge of building infrastructure-as-code pipelines and tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, Terraform, Jenkings. 

  • Orchestration technologies and languages such as JSON, Python and shell scripting is extremely advantageous. 

  • Experience of platform adoption ideally public cloud adoption
