Joining Intuitive Surgical means joining a team dedicated to using technology to benefit patients by improving surgical efficacy and decreasing surgical invasiveness, with patient safety as our highest priority.

Primary Function of Position:

We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join the Imaging and Intelligence Group at Intuitive Surgical. The Engineer will work on exploring new product ideas that help us invent the future of imaging-based intelligent robotic surgery.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the mentor

• Develop machine learning algorithms for surgical scene perception


• Implement developed algorithms on a real time platform


• Evaluate implemented algorithms in ex-vivo and in-vivo labs


• Collect data and improve algorithms based on the feedback from labs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

• Graduate level student in Computer Science or Engineering


• In depth knowledge of a modern deep learning framework such as Tensorflow, Keras or Pytorch is required.


• Self-starter and able to work in a collaborative and results oriented environment.


• Experience with developing applications in Python is required.


• Experience with the C++ is a plus.


• Experience with CUDA is a plus.

Must be concurrently enrolled and returning to an academic program.
