Job Description:


Provides leadership and direction to multi-function teams to execute the business restructuring strategy and controls all functions involved in the improvement process.  Ensures the NSI program meets all goal requirements for product function and reliability, program cost/budget and customer satisfaction.


Leads a team to develop introduction plans including establishing performance, quality, cost, and investment targets.  Responsibilities of the team is to establish and achieve target costs; establish and achieve reliability targets; establish and achieve time tables; execute the Requirements Management Process and identify critical customer and business requirements; guide concept selection and the identification and achievement of program requirements and technical specifications; shorten problem resolution times; achieve manufacturability; assure process conformance; and determine, justify and monitor capital investments.Ensures all technical, cost, marketing, manufacturing, materials, and test & evaluation problems are addressed and solved.  Investigates alternatives and solutions and assigns appropriate resources to execute resolution plans.  Develops teamwork breakdown structures, project workbench activities and additional control systems.  Develops test plans based on risk assessment and reviews all research, engineering, test & development and marketing plans to ensure successful product introductions.Ensures the development and training of team members.  Communicates and coordinates activities with other team and marketing companies. Actively participates in all decisions for NSI concept, design, build & test, release and production.  Decisions made directly impacts product sales and profits, and research, engineering and capital investments.  A continuing challenge is to gain consensus from a variety of disciplines on appropriate development plans and activities to meet NPI programs.


The position manages a work unit of primarily management and/or salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required.  The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.


Typical internal customers include various contacts throughout Caterpillar worldwide and its subsidiaries.  External contacts include various customers and vendors throughout worldwide markets.  The position faces complex issues that may differ from those typically faced within the industry or profession.  The majority of the incumbent's time is spent in the development of new approaches or techniques.  The incumbent establishes and then monitors general policies and guidelines for projects under his/her control to ensure specific, management goals are met, and desired results are achieved.  Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Other Measure, Compliance with tax laws, immigration, etc.  The position monitors and reports on key quality measures for the measure(s) stated.  


Moderate travel required (5% - 15% of working time).


Basic Qualifications:



  • University degree 

  • Ten to thirteen years of progressively responsible job-related experience

  • Strong of product test & development, materials, accounting and pricing functions

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and good leadership and team management capabilities

  • Previous NPI leadership experience is a significant advantage 

  • Requires strong written and verbal communications skills

  • Previous experience of Hydraulic Shovels or Excavators is a significant advantage 

  • Relocation support:  None, however this is a global role.
