About the role

Join our team! We are looking for a highly motivated, results-oriented Facultative and Treaty Engineering Underwriter for our North and West African Markets.

Your job will entail examining, underwriting and developing facultative and treaty business in accordance with defined marketing objectives and profitability target. An important part of your role will be to foster client and broker relationships and develop new opportunities with prospective clients. You will be responsible for communicating with existing clients and identifying new prospective clients and business segments, whilst at the same time managing the portfolios which have been assigned to you.

Together we build on our partnerships with our clients and share our knowledge, with the objective to bring value for the client and Swiss Re. This role offers you lots of space to develop own ideas and find creative solutions.

Main responsibilities:

• You will handle the acquisition, evaluation, assessment and underwriting of medium to very large – and at times complex – engineering risks in the North and West African Markets. This will involve risk and portfolio analyses, actively cultivating relationships with existing clients and generating new business.


• Your will also cover underwriting different types of treaties and facultative risks for clients in the domain of engineering reinsurance.


• You will manage and develop Swiss Re relationships in North and West Africa region.


• Occasionally, you will inspect risks during construction or operations to mitigate exposures and prevent losses.


• Where appropriate, you will offer your expertise to clients, colleagues and less experienced underwriters.


• The overall aim is to anticipate and identify opportunities for new business and earnings growth in North and West Africa through management of existing clients and building up new clients.


• Your performance will be measured based on bottom line results.

About you

• You have ideally 5 years of experience in engineering underwriting on international markets.


• Your degree is preferably in civil, mechanical, process or electro-technical engineering and you have several years’ experience, ideally supervising and testing/commissioning.


• Highly client oriented, you work to understand real needs and deliver within set corporate goals.


• You are ready to travel to North and West Africa.


• Track record in successful client relationship management and in managing a solid deal pipeline and strong customer interaction skills


• Preferable experienced to work in an international environment


• Outstanding teammate who can work independently and takes ownership for making decisions


• Forward-thinking, trustworthy, enthusiastic and curious to learn


• Solution and result oriented, ability to deliver, pragmatic


• Proficient in English and French language
