Job Description


The Associate Director of R&D Portfolio Strategic Projects will partner with cross-organizational groups to define and develop business processes, analytics and insights to optimize the R&D portfolio and organization.


This leader will focus on "better science, better decisions, and better efficiencies" in R&D. This position will develop a vision for digital and analytics in Galderma R&D, improve global R&D business processes, and enhance the R&D operating model. The Associate Director R&D Portfolio Strategic Projects will liaise with relevant stakeholders in R&D, Operations, Commercial, Finance and other key functional areas to define overall R&D needs, develop a roadmap of opportunities, and deploy transformative solutions to improve our ways of working.


Job Responsibilities



  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Portfolio Management Operations to develop and harmonize business, project and portfolio processes in R&D (e.g. financial planning, Planisware system, lifecycle management, etc.)

  • Collaborate with R&D leadership and other stakeholders to define, develop and implement a fit-for-purpose digital R&D strategy, product roadmaps, data strategy, agile governance mechanisms and technology road maps with cutting edge innovation

  • Act as a consultant within R&D to simplify and harmonize R&D systems and processes, and unlock value by e.g., leveraging digital solutions and engaging the right internal and external resources

  • Act as a conduit for R&D to transfer innovation, knowledge, best practices and lessons learned across the R&D organization

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team and senior leadership to define, build, lead, and drive strategic portfolio processes and projects as assigned

  • Partner closely with the Project Management team on portfolio processes, analytics, and reports

  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business or related field, required

  • M.S. or PhD. in a scientific field or MBA preferred

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience including 7 years in healthcare consulting and 5 years project management with successful experience in delivering projects

  • Experience in the medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, active listening, and relationship management skills

  • Distinguishes proper balance between strategic and tactical thinking

  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels, including senior management

  • Experience in complex project environments, performance measuring, strategic planning and reporting.

  • Self-motivated, comfortable in fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to clearly and effectively present information

  • Demonstrates creativity and foresight in anticipating and solving complex project issues

  • Self-directed, process oriented and able to work well in a team environment

  • Fluent in English

  • 10 – 15% travel is required for this position.
