The technology platform Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI) is a recently established service unit with integrated facilities for large-volume data processing and empirical science. We implement a research infrastructure that allows linguists and other researchers working on language-related data to collect, extract and analyze large data sets using advanced language computing technology and devices for experimental research (see also www.liri.uzh.ch/en.html).

LiRI seeks to fill the position of a Linguistic Application Engineer to enhance our team. The expected starting date is 1st of July 2021. The employment contract is initially for one year with possible extension.

Your responsibilities

• Collaborate in the design and realization of complex data-driven applications.

• Contribute to the development of linguistic data processing pipelines.

• Develop user interfaces for complex searches on large data collections.

• Organize work in close collaboration with other team members and stakeholders.

Your profile

• Demonstrable experience with web application development.

• Strong programming skills in JavaScript and Python.

• Experience with web application frameworks is a plus.

• Knowledge of query languages is a plus.

• Degree or proven working experience in Computational/Corpus Linguistics, Computer ­Science or Software Engineering.

• Good command of English and/or German.

Start of employment

The position is to start in July or by arrangement. It is initially limited to one year with the possibility of extension, subject to performance and budgetary developments. FTE percentage is negotiable between 70% and 100%.
