Scope


This opening is for a leadership position for a quantitative team consisting of 4 Quantitative Engineers with a focus on researching, developing and enhancing quantitative models and associated IT infrastructure. Furthermore this role comes with responsibilities to navigate and lead the team’s ongoing Business Development and proactive participation in the sales process. As such a keen motivation to identify and pursue commercial opportunities is crucial. Topics will vary greatly depending on clients and projects but will mainly revolve around issues in quantitative finance and asset management.


Accountabilities



  • Active team management and staffing as well as qualitative review of work conducted by staff

  • Identify and pursue business opportunities in close coordination with senior management at swissQuant

  • Lead external communication on new development progress, both by your team but also other quantitative teams within the company (Risk Engine, Portfolio Optimization, Sustainable Finance etc.)

  • Liaise with senior stakeholders to ensure that the model meets their requirements and ensure that they agree with the modelling assumptions and understand the associated risks.

  • Proactive sales participation and lead of client presentations regarding new developments

  • Management of revenue targets, planning and controlling

  • Perform on-going assessment of existing models and enhance model capabilities as well as development of functionalities.

  • Internal reporting to senior management on sales and business development progress


You and your team will work on the development of cutting-edge methodologies and technologies for major international clients.


Besides guiding the team’s directional focus, your tasks will include development, prototyping and testing quantitative models applied to finance in a real-world context. It will also include presenting your work and ideas to people with a diverse spectrum of experience and domain knowledge. You will also engage and participate in all phases of transformation of a quantitative idea into a final product or service, from the Proof-of-Concept to client deliverables.


 


Work is done both in a client project context as well as internal innovation / research tasks. This requires a high level of hard and soft skills which you will contribute as a team member. Your personal success will depend equally on your ability to conceptualize and develop state-of- the-art models as well as your ability to function well within a team.


Stakeholder Management / Leadership



  • Facilitate and challenge discussion of modelling approaches with senior stakeholders.

  • Facilitate the gathering and documentation of model requirements.

  • Communication of model development progress, including attendance at regular working groups and escalation of risk and issues to senior stakeholders.

  • Communication and explanation of model results to stakeholders.


 


Decision-making and Problem Solving



  • Ability to convert business objectives into technical modelling solutions.

  • Data analysis for trends and signal extraction.


Risk and Control Objective


Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, enterprise wide risk mitigation guidance and internal swissQuant policies and standards.


 


Requirements


 


Essential



  • Post graduate degree in a highly quantitative discipline.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Fluency in English, German is a plus.

  • Excellent knowledge of the financial industry and with financial products (synthetic index replication, structured products pricing etc.)

  • Experience in managing and mentoring senior staff

  • Strong industry experience in a highly quantitative role. This may be substituted by relevant academic experience in a quantitative discipline to a limited extend. (at least 5 years industry experience)

  • Evidence of prior commercial and client relationship experience

  • Experience in client communication and stakeholder management, both internal and external

  • Able to deliver to tight deadlines on quantitative projects.

  • Able to work in a highly dynamic environment.

  • Good understanding of statistical and econometric modelling techniques – e.g. time series


 


Preferred



  • PhD in a highly quantitative discipline.

  • Experience in designing and developing statistical and econometric and machine learning models.

  • Experience in leadership positions
