Caterpillar is investing in our digital future, and we’re looking for a Digital Product Manager within the Helios Data team to help maximize the value of Caterpillar’s digital platform.  Cat Digital is focused on accelerating services and parts growth by providing digital solutions through data analytics, innovation and customer-focused solutions.  The Product Manager collaborates with Product Owners, System Engineering, Data and Analytics Architects & Platform Architects to own and progressively elaborate functional and non-functional Epics, Features and Stories for the development teams to deliver on our goals.


Job Duties/Responsibilities may include but not limited to:


The Product Manager’s primary task is to create and manage the Product Roadmap and Backlog and to ensure everyone knows the priorities of the Product.  The Product Manager is empowered to make all decisions regarding the Product Backlog.   



  • Responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the Development Team

  • Responsible for acting as Product Manager for larger, more complex projects with high value to the organization

  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and prioritizing the Product Backlog according to business value for the life of the project

  • Communicate Product Backlog priorities to the team

  • Act as the key decision-maker regarding what features the product will have

  • Responsible for product vision and conveying that vision to the team

  • Owns definition of acceptance criteria for product features

  • Work closely with key stakeholders throughout the organization

  • Responsible for making decisions on release dates and content

  • Represent the customer, interfacing and engaging with the customer

  • Communicates releases to stakeholder and customers

  • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.


Basic Qualifications



  • Four year Bachelor’s degree preferably in computer science, information systems, marketing, communications, engineering or related field

  • 3+ years or more of experience in managing product teams.

  • 5+ years of experience in data management (data design, data quality, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate appropriately to ensure a team’s success


Top candidates will also have:



  • Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabularies, authority control, data modeling, and schema design.

  • Strong knowledge of end-to-end data lifecycle across traditional data warehouses, relational databases, operational data stores, business intelligence reporting, and big data analytics.

  • Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, data quality, data modeling, and data architecture concepts

  • Experience creating conceptual and logical data models

  • Experience with metadata managers like Erwin’s Mapping Manager

  • Experience with data profiling tools such as Alteryx

  • Experience with Extract, Transformation, Load (ETL) tools

  • Knowledge of data technology products and components for Big Data and Cloud (AWS, Data Lakes, and similar).

  • XML and JSON file format knowledge

  • Software development experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Javascript, C++, Scala, etc 

  • Experience with Object Oriented Concepts/Development/Modeling

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex, rapidly changing, and culturally diverse environment.

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas, regardless of the technical capacity of the audience

  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment where digital is still evolving as a core offering

  • Domain expertise in business applications

  • Strong accountability planning/organization, and teamwork

  • Strong accountability, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, and communication skills
