JOB PURPOSE:
Incumbent assists dealers in achieving rental operational excellence and rental revenue targets. With an analytical mindset, through conducting detailed analyses of dealer rental operations and making appropriate recommendations, this position has a direct impact on dealer profitability.

JOB DUTIES: The key role of this assignment is applying previous field experience and knowledge of process improvement methodologies to improve dealer profitability. The incumbent is a liaison among dealers, customers and other Caterpillar personnel. Incumbent is very familiar with the company’s processes, systems and methodologies. Incumbent is accountable for contributing to the identification, analysis and resolution of product support needs and problems in assigned disciple/district. Position performs complex analysis work, identifies and resolves problems that are less tactical and more strategic in nature. Challenges include developing and meeting expectations in delivering results, considering and recommending alternative courses of actions, making timely decisions and developing greater communication skills. Incumbents may work directly with other Caterpillar units, customers, and eventually, suppliers.
Primary roles* of the incumbent include:
1. Conduct detailed analyses of dealer rental operations (coverage, forecasting, inventory management, rental fleet utilization, and orders and claims processing, etc.) with special emphasis on streamlining processes and improving dealer rental business profitability.
2. Counsel dealers on methods to improve rental productivity measures. Evaluate individual dealer performance, and develop appropriate recommendations to optimize dealer participation in the rental opportunity for the assigned service territory.
3. Evaluate training needs of dealer rental operations staff and leverage existing materials and resources to satisfy those training requirements. Includes the use of Industry and Product Specialist for Cat and Allied equipment as well as the training curriculum housed on the Cat Rental College.
4. Utilize the established rental operational and financial benchmarks in order to measure the health of the dealer’s rental business.
5. Counsel dealers on rental operations information systems including advantages, shortcomings and implementation plans.
6. Leverage the Cat Dealer Advisor and Caterpillar resources to counsel dealers on operational process improvement opportunities that will contribute to achieving a superior level of customer satisfaction and improved profitability in rental operations.
7. Improve dealer rental fleet integrity and growth based on profitability.
8. Counsel dealers on an optimal rental rollout strategy, maximizing dealer profitability.
9. Insure the health of the Caterpillar Rental Store during the General Construction Distribution deployment.
10.Utilize CRSI for effective used equipment inventory management.
11.Drive integration of Rental, Used and New to satisfy customer demand and maximize population growth.
12.Counsel dealer on the optimal and profitable usage of the CAT Certified Used program.

The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others. Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division. External customers include two to ten Dealers and their customers. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Impacts key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Profitability, etc. The position works to develop innovative Processes or methods to best use resources or technology in meeting the quality goals.
The position typically requires travel from 25% to 40%.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
The position requires construction industry experience, knowledge of Caterpillar products, services and dealer operations. Rental industry experience is also highly desirable. Personal computer skills and familiarity with various software packages may be required. The position typically requires a college or university degree or equivalent relevant experience. In addition, 6 to 8 years of job-related experience are typically required. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department. Incumbents will have demonstrated the ability to work on increasingly more complex assignments and provide direction to lower level reps on project assignments.
