The Platform for Shaping the Future of Energy, Materials and Infrastructure aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable, secure, and affordable energy system, and to maximize the net social and economic value delivered by materials. 


Urban Ecosystems are the epicenter of global energy demand and emissions. Cities  h ost over half of the world population and are consuming 78% of the world’s primary energy, mostly driven by power, buildings and transportation.


The World Economic Forum is collaborating with 70 public and private sector stakeholders, across 10 different sectors, to drive the necessary transformations across business and policy in the city-ecosystem.  Crucial is action on “systemic efficiency”.  Specifically, to expand renewable energy, to increase clean electrification of transportation and heating, to ensure everything from factories and homes to transport systems and consumer devices become more energy efficient and to improve innovation on materials and infrastructure delivery models.


Reporting lines and interactions


The Program Lead will report to the Head of Electricity/Head of Net Zero Carbon Cities. Internally, this person will work with colleagues across the organisation, and externally with a broad range of stakeholders, from city and national level governments to companies from sectors including electricity, technology, oil and gas, engineering, infrastructure, real estate and mobility.


Main responsibilities


Content and Strategy



  • Contribute to the strategy of NZCC, by collaborating with colleagues, public and private stakeholders as well as other global initiatives and networks to create synergies for greater impact.  

  • Conduct research and analysis in order to provide strategic input and develop content for World Economic Forum communication/social media, briefing papers and meetings

  • Provide regular updates to the leadership team relevant on the program, and issue areas.

  • Provide strategic input to developing content and convening key stakeholders at key Forum meeting to progress both dialogue and delivery of action.


Program and Community Management



  • Provide strategic input in addition to day-to-day management for the development of the ‘Net Zero Carbon Cities’ program. 

  • In collaboration with external stakeholders, support the management and implementation of several workstreams.

  • Manage relationships and act as the interface between the program and the engaged stakeholders.  Develop, sustain and deepen program issue collaboration with stakeholders, including senior executives, academic leaders and government officials, as well as with internal Forum staff. 

  • In collaboration with the Forum’s partner development team, contribute to grow the Forum’s partnership base.

  • Manage planning and logistics for program-related meetings.


The successful candidate will be assessed on



  • Program/project management

  • Clear understanding of the issues related to the program. Existing relationships with key stakeholders are a plus

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to work well within a team, yet still able to be autonomous   

  • Strong writing and communications skills

  • Team spirit, flexible, service oriented and committed to creating impact


Preferred requirements and experience



  • 3-5 years relevant professional experience in public, private or civil society sectors

  • Strong academic background, Master’s degree or equivalent preferred

  • Strong track record in project management and execution, ideally related to one of the following: policy, energy, cities, built environment, or mobility.

  • Proven coordination and communication skills for a dynamic and evolving organization

  • Ease with working in a fast-paced, highly demanding environment, balancing multiple priorities under tight deadlines, and navigating ambiguity

  • Excellent written and spoken English
