Role Purpose
As the Project Management Chapter Lead, you will be a member of the Diagnostics Solutions Portfolio & Project Management Leadership Team (PPM LT) and the people leader for the Project Management Chapter.
In this position, you will be the leading figure and key point of contact for Roche Diagnostics’ capabilities in project management. You will improve the chapter’s overarching expertise based on current and upcoming needs to deliver on network priorities (e.g. upcoming portfolio investments with new technology skills needed).
You will be responsible to excel in developing the capabilities of Chapter members specialized in project management, including their skills in planning, coaching and guiding teams through execution, and early identification and communication around critical path items. As a line manager of Sub-Chapter leads and/or Chapter members, you will be responsible for designing and optimizing Chapter members’ personal professional journey and coaching your direct reports
You will partner primarily with the Lifecycle Teams and Strategic Portfolio Committees for the different Business Areas and Customer Areas to support them in the delivery of their respective strategies and solutions. These interactions are intended to support bringing the right capabilities and expertise to the efforts & squads to deliver across Networks’ priorities (who organize around business value). You will play a key role in crafting and implementing key aspects of PPM’s mid- to long-term strategy and ultimately contribute to the overall Roche Diagnostics Vision.
You will be responsible to...
Ensure that Roche Diagnostics’ capabilities in project management thrive:
Leverage a consolidated view of the Chapter’s capabilities to represent the most senior level of specialized expertise in project management towards Business and other Functions
Define the short and long term capability needs for the Chapter to deliver on the Function’s and Network’s strategy, and execute on it, ultimately advancing the Function’s expertise and helping our Customer Areas and LCT’s to achieve their business objectives
Establish and further develop best practices and thought leadership for all aspects pertaining to project management; exemplify the principle of proactive and continuous improvement
Maintain and develop all assets and partnerships related to Project Management that are owned by Roche Diagnostics, such as level one ownership/oversight for multiple Diagnostics processes as well as the project planning system
Promote fluidity of Chapter members’ capabilities (as needed) to easily support different business needs across Networks
Ensure delivery of Project Management services and capabilities across stakeholder groups
Work with sub-chapter leads and functional resource managers to deliver project management capabilities to Lifecycle Team, Functional, and PPM projects and programs
Set guidance for Project Management and support new ways of working including guiding teams and squads in the fit-for purpose application of Agile methodologies
Continuously improve PMO practices by establishing standardized processes and tools for project management and tracking (e.g. budget & milestone tracking)
Support the collaboration with functional leads and Project Leads to develop project plans and timelines that reflect all critical interdependent activities, enable fast decision-making, and the identification of project risks and opportunities
Collaborate across PPM and with Functions and Finance to support agile staffing approaches and highlight realization opportunities and challenges with respect to resource management
Adopt an approach of radical simplification for project management activities and processes, including the use of AI and intelligent automation
Drive strategic synergies within PPM (Portfolio Management, Analytics & Insights) and other partners and stakeholder groups to enhance the impact of the group to the business
Serve as the Business Product Owner for Project Management tools
Be an active coach and mentor to members of the Chapter to help them grow and progress in their career
Nurture and develop an empowered, knowledgeable, effective and efficient group of subject matter experts (SMEs) within the Chapter with the capabilities to support Roche Diagnostics’ efforts with best-in-class expertise
Ensure that personal professional development is a priority in assignments of Chapter members and spread awareness for this
Design and promote personal professional journey paths within the Chapter, enabling the fluidity of resources intended by our New Ways of Working
Support access to the right resources
Work closely with Lifecycle Teams and relevant functional collaboration partners to identify and translate strategic direction to capability needs
Support Sub-Chapter Leads and Resource Managers within PPM to allocate the right resources to the right efforts, e.g. either to support squad staffing or provide functional expertise to support decision making in Decision Making bodies ( both LCT and Customer Area-level)
Enabling the organization’s New Ways of Working
Act as Role-model for Agile Leadership behaviors, as well as for our culture, mindset & behaviors as defined in We@RocheDiagnostics

What else do you have in your toolbox:
High degree of subject matter expertise:
University degree level qualification in a relevant discipline. A relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g. MSc; MBA; or higher degree qualification in a relevant area) would be desirable.
15+ years of experience operating in areas relevant to project management and in areas/sectors that may be directly comparable to Diagnostics or Life Sciences companies.
Deep / broad knowledge in project management methodologies and their application, capability building and management, and process ownership and oversight plus an understanding of the specific needs for each in the diagnostics industry and the development and support for regulated products
Proves deep knowledge and thought leadership on all aspects relevant to project management
Demonstrates courage, vision and drive to be at the forefront of innovative change
Strong line-leadership experience, preferably with extensive experience of creating and leading diverse, global teams, and/or matrix leadership in an enterprise-level technology-based industry.
Leadership and people development:
Proven ability to lead with creative attitude, very high self-awareness and being a coach and a mentor to other leaders and partners
Demonstrates the ability to build networks and can inspire to work agile
Empathy towards the needs of Squads and others Chapters combined with skill of prioritizing resource involvement
Demonstrated success in establishing a high performing environment with an excellent reputation attracting the best talent, developing and inspiring them
Experience defining career progression and development capabilities for project management in networked organization
Senior management skills
Previous experience in managing areas relevant to project management
Able to foster positive partnerships through effective influencing, negotiation and conflict management skills
