What the position is about
We are looking for a Computer Science / Bioinformatics / Computational Biology Scientist for a postdoctoral project with the goal of integrating machine learning techniques on bacterial sequencing data in order to predict antibacterial drug resistance. The candidate will have a good understanding of current machine learning techniques and interest in applying these techniques in the drug development context.
As a postdoc you're going to join our international team in an outstanding and competitive scientific environment and you will hold several of these primary responsibilities
Present work internally and at conferences
Publish work in peer-reviewed journals
Ability to work effectively and independently according to time-lines
Excellent organizational skills, personal initiative and detail oriented
Good communication and presentation skills, fluent in English

We are looking for a highly motivated and energetic person whose PhD was obtained not longer than 3-4 years ago. Furthermore, the successful candidate has strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and innovatively in a fast-paced environment.
Additionally, you bring in several of those qualities to the position
PhD (obtained within the last 4 years) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
Good knowledge of up-to-date machine learning techniques
Analytical skills to critically evaluate complex scientific data in order to provide recommendations to key staff
Experience in programming in Python or R
Solid understanding of genetics or bacterial genetics is a plus
Understanding of bacterial drug resistance mechanisms is a plus
A creative self-responsible person with great communication skills

The duration of the RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based in Basel, Switzerland with possible stays at the academic partners.
The start date of this fellowship is within 2021 or on availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date on your motivation letter.
