Contexte


The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of five Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in the areas of medical care, medical research and training. The mission of the Data Science Lab, part of the Data Science Group at the CHUV Division of Information Systems, is to design, develop and promote the adoption and application of innovative IT-based and data-driven solutions for better healthcare delivery, management and planning.


Our current and future challenges lie at the intersection of solutions for big health data storage and retrieval, multimodal data interoperability, data sharing, data privacy, artificial intelligence and clinical research. In our daily work, we constantly collaborate with clinical researchers, physicians, IT experts, and external academic or industrial partners.


Mission



  • Development and integration of data pipelines to semantically represent data from different sources and of various formats in a knowledge graph

  • Development and integration of algorithmic and ML/NLP/Image recognition solutions for feature extraction from both unstructured and structured data

  • Formalizing user specifications and writing technical reports

  • Contributing to the writing of scientific papers and grant proposals

  • Providing expert advice and guidance for the integration of novel ML-based solutions into production environment in the hospital information system

  • Coordinating external Data scientist consultants to enable the team to run multiple projects in parallel.


Profil


Your profile



  • You are passionate about applying data science techniques to the medical field to enable data-driven decision-making, finding patterns and understanding trends in electronic health records (EHR)

  • You enjoy working with highly motivated people in a highly agile and collaborative environment

  • You are totally comfortable with developing and managing interdisciplinary collaborations with physicians, clinical researchers and external stakeholders

  • You enjoy coaching junior data scientists and interns, leading new data science projects, providing support to existing ones and sharing your expertise within the group

  • You are able to “think outside the box”, take on new ideas.


Requirements



  • Master degree in Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Mathematics, or similar field (PhD is a plus)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience after Master degree in applied data science projects (experience in the medical data is a plus)

  • Very strong and broad ML background, with profound knowledge of different ML methods

  • Significant and demonstrable NLP experience, including end-to-end implementation of NLP solutions (experience on NLP on French text is a plus);

  • Fully familiar with Python NLP libraries (spacy or similar) and latest NLP solutions;

  • Fully familiar with at least one DL framework (Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras) and RNNs/CNNs architectures and their application to different data types

  • Familiar with GNU/Linux and shell scripting

  • Ability to work with and maintain a professional code base under version control (Git)

  • Some familiarity with Semantic web technologies and formats (at least: RDF, OWL, SPARQL)

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills (both in English and French), ability to work autonomously

  • Experience in any of the following areas would be a plus :


    • Container orchestration technologies (kubernetes)

    • Scalable data analytics technologies (Spark, Hadoop)

    • Distributed systems and Federated Learning

    • RESTful APIs

    • Agile software development as a team

    • Seach engines such as the Elastic stack or Solr

    • NoSQL databases

    • Lower level language (C/C++, Java, etc)

    • Supervising junior scientists.
