PROJECT LEAD, CONCRETE ACTION FOR CLIMATE INITIATIVE

(one-year contract with renewable possibility)

The Centre for Global Industries builds and sustains industry communities through an integrated concept of high-level meetings, research networks, task forces and digital collaboration, and drives sectoral world-leading initiatives to advance industry transformation. The Centre for Global Public Goods acts as a system leader and platform for the environment and natural resource security, food security, development finance and sustainable development activities at the Forum.

Together, the two centres with our partner the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) are building the Mission Possible Platform (MPP) to deliver high climate ambition industry-sector initiatives that help facilitate the transition of hard-to-abate sectors towards net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The Energy and Materials Cluster is seeking a Project Lead to lead the Concrete for Climate Initiative we are building together with the Global Concrete and Cement Association (GCCA) and our partners, which aims, as a part of the Mission Possible Platform, t o provide the world with carbon neutral cement and concrete by 2050 by addressing innovation, demand and address barriers that are holding back progress.

The Project Lead will have the opportunity to build and frame the initiative jointly with committed industry leaders, think tanks and civil society partners. As the Forum, we were able to bring together a range of interested parties and are now at the point when a joint engagement and commitment building process needs to be put in place. The position offers room for entrepreneurial spirit and would benefit from a personality that has some experience in coalition building and policy development.

Reporting lines and interactions

The Project Lead will report to the Head of Mining and Metals, based in Geneva. For the overall MPP coordination, the manager will also report to the Executive Director of the Mission Possible Platform. Internally, the successful candidate will work with colleagues from the Centre for Global Industries, the Future of Energy, Materials and Infrastructure platform and the future of Mobility platforms, the Centre for Global Public Goods, the Business Engagement team, as well as industry leads covering related sectors.

The intent for the Mission Possible Platform is to work with the GCCA to build an initiative based upon their sustainability charter and emissions reduction commitments in line with the Paris Agreement. The Project Lead will therefore closely interact with GCCA as well as with MPP partners such as ETC, the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), WeMeanBusiness and those partner companies in the supply chain; mining and metals, energy, chemicals, transport and logistics and advanced manufacturing industries. The initiative will also engage the wider industry ecosystem of finance and investors, energy and utilities, downstream customers, construction industry and governments.

Main responsibilities

• Develop the vision, objectives and strategy and deliverables for the initiative with our initiative partners


• Build a high ambition community of companies as part of the initiative who want to move faster on both the demand and supply side


• Ensure the community derives value and meets the objectives of the project


• Communicate the vision, objectives and desired outcomes about the project with internal and external stakeholders


• Maintain good marketing materials for new partner development or engagement


• Strengthen community management and proactively create opportunities for engagement of leaders in this space across the Forum’s and MPPs global activities


• Assist with events planning and logistics for all project-related efforts

  The successful candidate will be assessed on

• Proven ability to build and manage industry communities and build collaborations across public, private and civil society networks to deliver tangible mission (theory of change) driven impacts


• Ability to develop a joint vision, strategy and work plan with partners and stakeholders as well as implement engagement strategies, incorporating Forum-specific know-how and project management best practices across the team in the different offices and locations


• Delivery of agreed-upon events and logistics needs, project targets and measurable efforts to deepen engagement with partners


• Ability to build a core community from existing and new partners that are onboarded to enable a well-integrated initiative.


• Successful collaboration internally and across key partner organizations

Preferred requirements and experience

• Advanced university degree in economics, engineering, public-policy or other relevant fields


• At least 7 to 10 years of professional experience; preferably in the cement, concrete and energy and materials sectors or related industries, and/or international and non-government organizations


• Project management experience, including multi-stakeholder management


• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
