Master’s student or intern
Ref. 2020_048
Project description
Quantum computers are machines that rely on characteristical quantum phenomena, such as quantum interference and quantum entanglement, in order to perform computation. In order to fully exploit the performance of these novel computing systems, custom-designed CMOS circuits and dedicated hardware solutions will be required. The IBM Research Europe lab in Zurich is working on several aspects in this area (in our departments for Cloud & AI Systems Research and Science and Technology).
At IBM Research in Zurich, in the Neuromorphic and I/O Links group, we are hiring a research intern, who is interested in analog and mixed signal circuit design. The focus of our work is on the design and testing of high-speed, power-optimized CMOS circuits for future computing platforms. Our team is specialized in designing high speed data converters in cutting-edge CMOS process nodes such as 7 nm or below.
The main goal of this project is to design novel CMOS data converters that can potentially become the building blocks of a cryogenic qubit control/readout system. Specifically, the tasks to be performed are:
The internship position has a maximum duration of 8 months, starting between now and June 2021.
The ideal candidate is a student, who is currently enrolled in a master’s or PhD program in Electrical Engineering or a related field. We are inviting applications from students to conduct their master’s thesis work or an internship project (this may also be part of a PhD). The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and evolve in the field of analog and mixed signal design under expert guidance.
Requirements
Candidates are expected to have the following experiences and interests:
Diversity
IBM is committed to diversity at the workplace. With us you will find an open, multicultural environment. Excellent flexible working arrangements enable all genders to strike the desired balance between their professional development and their personal lives.
