IT Support Specialist

The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) seeks a highly qualified and motivated “IT Support Specialist” to support its researchers. The FMI is an internationally recognized institute pursuing fundamental research. It has a staff of 350, which includes about 200 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work in a team that supports a heterogeneous environment of Windows, Macintosh, iPhones, and Android devices, including those connected to instruments or workstations used for data acquisition and analysis. This will require ordering, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of these systems, as well as IT procurement and license management of software. The role also requires the ability to interpret and anticipate the needs of research groups and technical platforms.

Qualifications: For this challenging position, you must have in-depth experience supporting Windows and Macintosh computers, as well as experience supporting commercial and open source software. A degree in a field of computing or equivalent experience is mandatory. Scripting and programming experience relevant to basic system administration, as well as knowledge of electronics and experience in a research setting or degree in the natural sciences is advantageous. This position is hands-on and demands both an independent working style and a strong business focus to successfully support scientific research and operations in our organization.
