Corporate Counsel m/w/d (60-100%)


In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring Karger's business interests are founded on a sound legal basis, negotiating and defending them. In addition, you are the central internal contact person for legal issues of all kinds. You report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).


 


This multifaceted role includes:



  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments in publishing at national and international level incl. self-regulations and development of Open Science/Open Access.

  • Development of internal guidelines, directives and model documents

  • Drafting and negotiating contracts in solution-oriented exchanges with Karger business units and external contracting parties

  • Contract management

  • Risk control/management and supervision of the internal control system (ICS) in cooperation with our Head of Finance & Insights

  • Case-related support of the organization, mainly in the areas of copyright and IT law (project contracts, licences), contract law, labour law and compliance (e.g. data protection law) as well as compliance with internal guidelines and directives

  • If necessary, conducting/coordinating litigation in cooperation with specialised law firms in Switzerland and abroad

  • Contributing to the creation of modern working conditions for all Karger employees

  • Helping to organise and conduct specialist training and information events


Qualification and experience required:



  • Successfully completed studies in law

  • Profound professional knowledge and several years of experience in the relevant fields of law; a focus on copyright law is advantageous

  • Quick perception, ability to work under pressure, motivation, communication skills and high willingness to provide services

  • A careful, solution-oriented and pragmatic way of working

  • Fluent (written and spoken) in both English and German; other languages are an advantage

  • Confident handling of MS Office packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
