The GMAP division works towards reducing the risks from explosive ordnance in a gender and diversity sensitive and responsive manner. It provides support to national mine action authorities/centres, national and international operators, and other stakeholders to ensure that gender and diversity considerations are mainstreamed in mine action programmes and to improve the overall effectiveness, efficiency, relevance and integration of explosive ordnance risk education (EORE) within the mine action sector and beyond. Through assessments, technical assistance, training, research, and advocacy work, the GMAP Division is committed to improving the impact of mine action interventions on women, girls, boys, and men from diverse groups in affected communities according to identified needs and priorities. In addition, GMAP internally supports the GICHD to ensure that gender equality, inclusion, and the empowerment of women and girls are realised at all levels of the Centre’s work.
The Advisor is responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of GMAP’s activities in collaboration with, and under the guidance of, the Head of Division (HoD). More specifically, the jobholder will support the delivery of products including assessments, technical assistance, research, trainings, and online learning products. The position is based in Geneva, but the incumbent is expected to travel to mine/ERW-affected and donor countries on a regular basis.
Description: The Advisor will plan, prepare and deliver gender and diversity mainstreaming capacity assessments or components of broader assessments of explosive risk reduction partner organisations at the country and global level, in cooperation with the rest of the GMAP team and/or with other GICHD divisions, both remotely and involving field travel to medium-high risk environments.
Outputs: Assessments gender and diversity mainstreaming capacity of explosive risk reduction programmes
Goals: Successful delivery of all assessments in line with GICHD’s results-based management approach and to the satisfaction of partners
Description: The Advisor will be a key member of the team in the delivery of GMAP’s online and in-person training courses. The Advisor will design, prepare, and deliver training courses and modules in cooperation with the rest of the GMAP team and other GICHD divisions, both remotely and involving field travel to medium-high risk environments.
Outputs: Development of Inclusive Leadership training course, support to delivery of Gender Focal Point Capacity Development Training Courses and Programme, delivery of specific training for partners and other divisions as required.
Goals: Successful delivery of all courses in line with GICHD’s results-based management approach
Description: The Advisor will provide technical assistance and advice on gender and diversity upon request, as well as facilitate workshops and events on various aspects of gender equality and inclusion in mine action for national governments, national mine action authorities and centres, security services, mine action operators, UN agencies etc. The Advisor will also contribute actively to the review of colleagues’ projects on an ongoing basis.
Outputs: Demand-specific / to be determined (internally and externally), including advice on gender and diversity in policies and standards (including IMAS and NMAS), action plans, strategies, etc.
Goals: Successful contribution to GMAP’s Technical Assistance work on an ongoing basis
Description: The Advisor will support GMAP’s research on gender equality and inclusion in mine action, explosive risk reduction and the broader disarmament sector through active contribution to ongoing research projects and the development of new projects, including the management of consultants. The Advisor will also identify areas for future research on gender and diversity in mine action and related fields as well as producing briefings, publications, and articles for internal and external stakeholders.
