For the group of Mechanisms of Signal Transduction we are looking for aLaboratory TechnicianYour tasks
Laboratory organization and management, including maintenance of the laboratory supplies, small instruments, organisation of laboratory cleaning/maintenance tasks, instrument scheduling, etc. These tasks will be performed in coordination with the technical staff in the BIO division
Maintenance of the cell culture, including insect cells and mammalian cells
Protein production in mammalian and insect cells (using transient or stable expression, baculovirus-mediated transduction, etc.) or in bacteria (E. coli)
Protein purification (affinity chromatography, size exclusion chromatography)
Quality control of the purified proteins: SDS PAGE or size-exclusion chromatography
Technical support of the pilot projects or the ongoing projects in the group
Introduction and training of the new group members (PhD Students or Postdoctoral Fellows) in these techniques
The group of Prof. Korkhov (Mechanisms of Signal Transduction) at PSI is looking for a skilled and highly motivated laboratory technician. You will be involved in various types of experimental work in the laboratory, including bacterial and eukaryotic cell culture, protein expression and purification, basic recombinant protein analysis and quality control. As a member of a vibrant, international team, you will be working to support and advance the new and ongoing research projects in the group. Additionally, you will be coordinating the laboratory organization and maintenance tasks, as well as training new group members in the key methods used by the group.
Your profile
Minimally education at the level of an apprentice or equivalent (B.Sc), or a Master (M.Sc.) degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, molecular biology, or a related discipline
Prior experience with bacterial and eukaryotic cell culture, protein expression and protein purification. Experience with molecular cloning, analytical techniques, protein biochemistry (e.g., SDS PAGE, SEC, protein stability, protein-protein or protein-ligand interaction methods) will be an advantage
Excellent organization and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a team are a requirement for this job
